Summer of Cricket thread

There's no reason to be charging and backing away from anything with wickets in hand. We're not chasing a declaration, there's no rain coming, it's not late on the 4th day.

Grind the bastards into the ground and make them come out in the blazing sun tomorrow while we put on another 150.

Both teams have bad lapses batting and bowling, the Poms are also poor in the field.

The only reason the series is close is we have 2 of our best bowlers out, the replacements are not that great, and our batsmen keep having brainfades and thinking that they are playing T20.

Our score 378/6 is good, but seems like 2-3 of our batsmen got themselves out when they were well set and on top.

What we need to do now is bat at least one session, keep the Poms in the field and try to build a big lead.

We might still finish with the innings total we wanted.

Cam Green getting an absolute pasting on Twitter. And rightly so.

But also what was Smith doing? They were both swinging at everything. Smith should have walked down the pitch and said 'let's calm down a bit'.

Anyway, Carey has righted the ship somewhat. Will be an interesting day tomorrow.

4 dropped catches put us back into the drivers seat

50 run lead is par if you bat last, and we are nearly there with 4 wickets in hand

if that gets over 100 run lead it can get awkward for England real quick

here is a stat to keep in the back of your mind

has there ever been a 500+ innings score where no one has gotten a century? Not completely out of the question here...

Was out with son guys so missed most live play. Aussies in a good spot at stumps.

After vital contributions from Weatherald, Labuchagne, Smith and Green we have now batted ourselves into a solid position. But things got a touch dicey when Smith and Green after cruising with a 90 run partnership, suddenly threw away their wickets. Most baffling was that of the West Aussie who showed his lack of cricket smarts by falling into Carses' trap and Englands score at all costs mode of batting. I hope a lesson has been learned from this big fellar. Carey and Neser thankfully consolidated by stumps taking us to a handy lead. Adding another hundred runs to our tally would go down very nicely...

Mitchell Starc is officially the greatest left arm fast bowler of all time.
Yes and no. Akram played one yr less than Starc. So lets say that equates to 10 tests at 5 wk per Test. That is then a different story. Cant argue tho, that his form past 12 months has been fabulous. But he has been so excruciatingly inconsistent over his career you wanna scream sometimes.

According to CA Josh Hazlewood wont be playing next Test as his hammy is on a slow improve. Expecting Josh to wake up one morning soon and decide to call it quits as he must be so tired of continually missing Test matches.

Dont be surprised if Jhye Richardson is recalled for this series, prob late matches. Then again it may be next Test by replacing Doggett who does not look up to this level.

It worries me I’ve seen Neser and Doggett bowl so well in the Shield at Bellerive, Boland less potent at the venue, and all three look relatively innocuous ATM at the Gabba at Test level.

When Boland was bowling with 2 of the big 3 pace bowlers, plus GOAT spinning, he looked more effective. Sometimes he gets his length wrong.

Probably the most impressive recent bowler to visit Bellerive in the Shield, but Jhye’s body struggles to cope with red ball cricket.

I can’t believe Green was stepping to off to play tennis style forehand shots?

Maybe once or twice, but was always going to be susceptible to a Yorker. It happened!

There was no hurry.

Gee, we are missing him!

We are filthy Webster was dropped after a successful Test career of 35 runs batting average and 23 runs bowling average.

Lyon being dropped, given the relative Test inexperience of the rest of the attack, apart from Starc, is perplexing too.

If you are reading this Baggers, Kuhnemann is in Brisbane playing Mickey Mouse big bash, whilst Tas are playing South Aus in Shield. Kuhn has played too much white ball recently, over red ball, to be considered for Tests.

I am suggesting his inclusion only provided he survives the current four day A match in Brisbane. He took four in the first innings and from footage he looks good. But he is clearly slower these days given his chronic shoulder problems.
