Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

IMO it reamins the wrong decision but one they have to wear, staff and coach if it continues to be problematic despite the fix gap signings. I cant blame Mells for neither being a player that cant play 90mins nor that he was in any way a problem or the weakest link on the park if anything the exact opposite is true (we had weaker links, players that continue to not be able to play the style and that last less minutes than he did _ none of which conteibuted as he did while present) simply we lacked a player to do the dirty work behind him when he played and he paid for it, last week we lacked anyone in front of menelaou to support and we paid for that also (and menelou had to wear that also as the DM) ..

Mells as stated was respectful and in his interview just reinforced what we already knew.

South Melbourne currently 3-1 up in the second half of the Dockerty Cup semi-final against Avondale FC. Winner faces Heidelberg United in the final after they thrashed Nunawading City 5-0.

A performance to be proud of from the boys... a moment of silliness at best from Mikkola but the call was an absolute joke to send him off...
Great opening performance from Yuzo.

Now a chance to challenge the best team of the season, and our traditional rival, in a final for the first time since the memorable 1993 match..........and when it comes to derbies, undoubtedly the history of the Alexander v Hellas is a rich and storied one! One team playing for the only trophy it can win this season and the other to scoop all in its path.. has all the markers to be a classic.

That was a great performance by the team tonight. The coach had the team well set up. The team showed great intensity and moved the ball around really well. We pressed well and chased down all balls.

The new Japanese player showed real class tonight. He’s too good for the NPL.

Thought the defence did well tonight. They kept it tonight apart from a couple of instances. Jankovic and Marshall were solid tonight.

Question now is - where do they play the Final? HOTM?

Could you imagine if we knock off Heidelberg in the Final?

Winning back to back Dockerty Cuos would be huge. It would also salvage the year, and be a springboard into the Australian Championship which we must win.

The Dockerty Cup final will be at a neutral venue but I don't think Home of the Matildas is going to host back-to-back finals. I'd be surprised if we ended up having the final at Home of the Matildas again this year but we should know closer to the fixture date on August 9th.

Asked our Pres that question last night. Will contact the Bergers President during the week and will possibly toss a coin to decide at whos home ground its played on. Both sets of fans would prefer that and neutrals...

I wish we got to host it since Heidelberg got the freebie in the semi against Nuna.

Matildas venue is surely done especially with the extra seating removed, knights playing surface is a cow paddock. Flipping a coin may be the ideal outcome.

In saying all that. Oaks will start making a case to host these sort of games. Watch this space....

I think they will as well. Think the opening of the new stand is scheduled to be the final round when they play us. Not sure they can get it done 2 weeks earlier.

Bergers will have better food though! Lol
Matildas venue was the only logical neutral venue that didnt create travel issues.. lakeside would be ideal.

I doubt FV will allow that to happen even though it’s the best outcome they’re all about playing finals at neutral venues now

Credit goes to Sinisa the way he set up the team we were well organised. The jap was unreal in midfield, a class above.

It’s going to be tough in the final without Mikkola. We now go into another final with a key player suspended. Max getting sent off like that was pure stupidity.
Are we certain he misses the final and doesnt take syspensuon in the league like previous rounds or just like reverse is possible,

Mikkola will miss the final per the Football Victoria disciplinary regulations because he got an indirect red card for two yellows in the semi, which constitutes a Finals Series match for Dockerty Cup, and he has to serve the suspension in the cup final.
