Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Was the feminist being daft??? if going off the rule book as quoted then we are still not certain he wont miss?!

It will be difficult with him... itll be plain impossible without him in the final!

Credit goes to Sinisa the way he set up the team we were well organised. The jap was unreal in midfield, a class above.

It’s going to be tough in the final without Mikkola. We now go into another final with a key player suspended. Max getting sent off like that was pure stupidity.
Absolute peach of a performance.... The first 20 mins of the second half is the best football Ive seen Hellas play for the past 3 years.... Bravo lads, keep building....

Will be a good boost to get him back, leech has stepped up big time though and will be interesting to see how Yuzo goes too.
Yeah Leech has greatly improved on his early season form... seems fit and hungry to contribute... Yuzo seems like a very tidy player, pretty versatile and calm on the ball... Im actually looking forward to the remainder of the season now, its amazing how the "vibe" at the club has changed with a few tweaks to the playing squad..... I dont think we will win anything to be honest... its great getting into another Dockerty cup final (and anything can happen in a derby final I know) and will go possibly 1-2 more rounds in the cup but league finals are pretty much an impossibility now... at least we go into the Championship with some form and a half decent squad.... Remembering where we were 2 months ago........

Just curious, I’m in Brisbane so don’t know the details about what’s been happening with SMH, but is Sinisa the coach who came in a few games into the season and all the supporters were (I think) complaining that he had never coached a senior team and had no idea? Or did they replace that guy with Sinisa?

The louder online supporters were not happy. They believe he was only selected either because 'everyone else' declined our offers, or we could not afford anyone 'decent'.

He is the replacement to previous head coach Esteban Q.. Yes, to never having coached a senior side before... last few weeks he has the team playing bouts of very good football and with a bit consistency.... he has been helped by the incoming players, the returns from injury and the promotion of some "hungry" talented youth players which have all boded well for his system... His game plan is starting to show some positive signs on the pitch but that doesnt mean he is the coach to take us back to the top, especially with AU championship around the corner. He may well be given the chance to (if nothing more outstanding becomes available) but i have a feeling club and supporters would still prefer someone more established...
Fans rightly so, were critical from the get go, especially after some shortfalls in his decision making on some gamedays (subs etc) but its a learning curb, so we dont have as much grumbling as with Esteban who was long past his used by date, and is the main reason for this years underwhelming showing...

To be fair we were/are all a bit shell shocked at the inability to bring in someone more renowned (hard to do at the best of times let alone mid season) given our struggles, overall the supporters have been quite willing to give him time and space to work...

I personally am not convinced fully that he is the coach to take us to AU championship! A lot will show now in the cup games and remainder of the league and we will rate him at the end of it having a clearer picture of the performances.

Agreed some of the subs (or lack there of) cost us the Dandy thunder game and city game I believe. In saying that, he turned a stagnant, dysfunctional style around to a more attractive brand that is so much more enjoyable to watch, while bringing in players that suit this new style of play. Let's not look past the importance of the Magic game this week, put in a solid performance and give us some momentum for both cup matches!

I often think of North Melbourne in the AFL .... in 1993 they suffered a 127 point pre-season loss to Adelaide.

Club legend Wayne Schimmelbusch was sacked, and they installed previous Under 19 coach Denis Pagan. He took them to success to match the golden 1970's era. He had NEVER coached senior footballers, except the year before at Essendon he was an assistant to Sheedy.

HOWEVER, he was the Under 19's coach of a significant portion of the existing team.

So, you just never know ... even Postecoglou had never coached at senior level before.
