You are 100% spot on with all of it.... i would through in the st albans game to the above..
It is strange to think that, since Sinisa took over, we have 'thrown away' 7 points! Granted, we did beat Preston at the death. So, let's reduce that to 5 points. Not to mention, last minute victories in the cup against Pascoe Vale and Bentleigh.

The point is, what a contrast to earlier in the year, that we can 'throw away' points and still look at a record that shows
7 wins
2 draws
1 loss

The louder online supporters were not happy. They believe he was only selected either because 'everyone else' declined our offers, or we could not afford anyone 'decent'.
This is EXACTLY what transpired though... If you think SInisa's signing was a planned move and not a last minute scramble you have rocks in your head.

Just curious, I’m in Brisbane so don’t know the details about what’s been happening with SMH, but is Sinisa the coach who came in a few games into the season and all the supporters were (I think) complaining that he had never coached a senior team and had no idea? Or did they replace that guy with Sinisa?
Pretty much mate... He was club TD for a while and then moved on to focus on assistant coaching duties with the Philippines national women's setup... a competent manager but NOT one with any senior men's experience.

Agreed some of the subs (or lack there of) cost us the Dandy thunder game and city game I believe. In saying that, he turned a stagnant, dysfunctional style around to a more attractive brand that is so much more enjoyable to watch, while bringing in players that suit this new style of play. Let's not look past the importance of the Magic game this week, put in a solid performance and give us some momentum for both cup matches!
credit where credit is due, he HAS pushed for a simpler style than Esteban, one that plays into the ball playing strengths of our squad AND has helped recruit season saving players.... Ball movement is crisp and fluid and his partial insanely high press intermingled with periods of giving the other side the ball has helped keep other "tacticians' on their toes.... The proof will be in the pudding though.... If he can get us into finals (miracle of miracles) a Dockerty cup win and a cup run in the Australia cup then he may very well get a crack at the Championships later this year..... I believe OTHER things are brewing though.... Who knows at this stage?

Enjoiy this ball movement in the meantime, its the best we have been playing for a very long time

That clip just highlights how much this team has transformed under Sinisa. Attacking, free flowing football with the default position being to attack and score. Under Esteban, the default position would have been to pass back and defend deep.

It's actually enjoyable to come to Lakeside to watch this team play.

I was sceptical when he was announced as the coach to take over for the remainder of the season. I questioned his coaching experience at senior level. Those concerns were raised even higher after the home loss to Port Melbourne when his tactics were all wrong. Things turned around at the Victory home win. The results have been promising since that Victory match, as well as the style of play.

I want to see how Sinisa performs in the Australian Championship before deciding whether he remains on for the 2026 season. He'll have the opportunity to bring in players on loan. If he can help the team perform well in that higher level, then he has a compelling case to be kept on for the 2026 season.

Yeah Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as well.... Rumour is that we have an incoming manager but who really knows what happens between now and then?

Yeah it certainly is..... even the last minute equalisers or the fact we cant keep a clean sheet to save our lives anymore... its good, honest attacking football .... Id rather this and go down swinging than anything else... it just feels more .... for lack of a better word ... Hellas.

If Sinisa gets us a win on the weekend, a win in Tassie during the week and at least a point (can I dream of more?) at the Village next weekend, Im all in on the "Uncle Buck train"

Hey Keeper, my apologies, re-reading your post, I think you are referring to Tyson Holmes and Leigh Minopoulos, two past South players currently doing their coaching badges that managed the immediate 2 matches after Esteban was unceremoniously canned... Both not very well received appointments but both did their best to at least keep the lights on until Sinisa replaced them as Manager ... both these boys are on the coaching team..

Thanks mate, maybe that initial change was what was in my mind. Thanks for clarifying the timeline.

I often think of North Melbourne in the AFL .... in 1993 they suffered a 127 point pre-season loss to Adelaide.

Club legend Wayne Schimmelbusch was sacked, and they installed previous Under 19 coach Denis Pagan. He took them to success to match the golden 1970's era. He had NEVER coached senior footballers, except the year before at Essendon he was an assistant to Sheedy.

HOWEVER, he was the Under 19's coach of a significant portion of the existing team.

So, you just never know ... even Postecoglou had never coached at senior level before.
I think South have appointed a hungry coach who's ready to prove himself, which is exactly what you want. A win against Avondale is huge, i honestly was expecting Avondale to just put south away easily. When i saw the results, i was shocked and quite happy that Avondale had lost.

In my opinion, it's better to take a chance on an up and coming coach rather than a very experienced coach just looking for his retirement fund.

I'll use Carlton in the 2010s as an example. They had a young and inexperienced coach
In the late 2000s/early 2010s. He managed to have them playing finals 3 years in a row. He had one down year where his team was destroyed by injuries and just narrowly missed finals. They sacked him later that year and appointed the most experienced coach, Mick Malthouse.

He managed to get them into the finals once on a technicality due to Essendon using drugs to cheat. The following years he had them playing an ultra defensive slow outdated style of play and he had killed the list by getting rid of good young players for his favourite older players. As a result the team kept finishing low and players wanted out of the club. 3 years later, he was also sacked.

He was like a cancer at the club and thanks to him, the Carlton football club had no choice but to go into a full rebuild mode where they would be finishing low on the ladder for the next decade or so.

Good on South for taking a chance on this coach, hope he does well.

I did think about that as well .. and in fact it is a theme I have noticed over the years, where there is a tendency for supporters (of any code or club) to want a 'name' coach, not realising that this is far from the panacea they expect,

Anyone heading down to the Semi Final tonight to support the girls be advised Bulleen Rd is closed coming back towards Manningham Rd and is only open one way ... this fricken tunnel better be worth it :(

Good luck girls
