Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Another one that got away...
Some really pretty football in patches thoguh.... First half in particular.... tis been a while since the football on the pitch has been so cohesive... Ren and Bonada work really well together and allwign Max to play pivto is a great move.... Once Andy got subbed off we lost the whole right wing thoguh and that terrible ultra low defensive shape cost us two stupid, lazy goals... not good enough to close down a match.... Spink looked OK for the minute she played.

Rebelliousfeminist974 is a bit of the opposite of you Mono. Happy to follow a club in every competition and often has a couple of favourites within competitions.

Basically a follower of any team that he/she likes the look of or has an affinity with.

One Life. One Love. Many Clubs.
Mate Im the same.... Basically a club of interest in pretty much every competition (Hollandia in the Aleague for example   ) Some I care for more than others, Liverpool and Panathinaikos for example... There is ONLY ONE true love though.... all the rest are affairs...

Another case of 2 dropped points rather 1 point gained. Another goal and an assist by Ren. Seems to be a pretty good pick up.

Now we must beat Altona. If we can beat Altona and the bottom 3 lose, then we would be 11 points ahead. That would be enough to stay up.

Knights have a catchup game against Oakleigh first.

Next round is Preston v Knights, St Albans v Victory and Port v Thunder.

You would expect the bottom 3 to lose. None of these teams look capable of repeating what St Albans did last year.

We could potentially suvive without picking up another point, but 1 win from here will do it.

If those results happen, we would be 11 points from the relegation zone, with only 12 points remaining to play for. Just a point at Heidelberg required to guarantee staying up.

Altona are the only team that struggle to find goals more than us... they ARE tightfisted in defence though, we'll struggle to get 3 points.... if we do, its safe ... if we dont we rely on the rest of the pack falling away....

Gully at lakeside is also winnable for us.

We have to be realistic about our chances against heidelberg, avondale and oakleigh.

Ideally we want to be safe with a couple games to spare.

With our current advantage port and victory need to win 3 of the 5 to overtake us...thats without us getting another point. I dont see 3 wins for either of them.

Exactly that we put all focus in the 2 matches... to add to SM above, hopefully by last rounds the top teams are cemented in their spots and not risking squads for wins! Heodelberg is another matter they are playing for top spot still so will be at full strength against us!

We need to be at least 4 points ahead of 12th spot by the last round.

We just have to focus on Altona Magic. Hahn Australia Cup fixture against South Hobart is a great thing, but the priority has to be 3 points against Altona.

A very good article by a relative new blogger for South Melbourne

Yeah Ive been reading Mannys blog and matchday reports for the pasty few months .... great to see there is still some life left in the South fanbase ....

The new signing looks promising. For a player that has competed at a very high level in Japan over a number of years, I don't doubt he can make a difference in the NPL. As long as he has maintained a reasonable level of fitness, he should be handy for the rest of the NPL season, Australia Championship and various cup competitions.

We were lacking a creative midfielder who could service Nagamatsu effectively.

You'd assume Iwakama would come on for the last 15-20 minutes on Saturday against Avondale. More than likely he would start against Altona Magic.
