The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

They have performed better than expected however they are in an easy group Broadmeadow are poor and Sydney Olympic are way off the mark South Melbourne have coasted the group without breaking sweat so they have a real chance to go through now
You can only play whats infront of you as they say.

BTW I notice the "club change" to Juve, has your lad transferred? VPL1 is going to be tough this year.

Metro Stars gave Bayswater a football lesson at Klemzig after they got going in the second half.
Nice goals from Wall and Sotira. I'm surprised Bayswater have done so well in this competition as they have no creativity in midfield.
And their coaching staff a bunch of loud mouth thugs who received two yellow cards from the ref.
Baysie look very "lumpy" as a side, very aggressive physically... Have done amazingly well so far.

As i have mentioned before, people with families and kids have stayed away.

Who wants to go when there is 20+ Riot Cops, walking around intimidating people.

The club really needs to reassess if they want to be part of this competition next season, I rather not be in it, if we need to fork out $30k a game for security and police to be present. Running at a loss, not worth it in my opinion.
i don’t want that to be that case, but it’s understandable

I'm guessing one is headcount and the other is ticket sales (since fa get a fraction of ticket sales)?
Maybe some are sneaking in?
I can only speak for myself but I have never been "recorded" at our 3 home matches... just nod to the dude at the entry of the social club and walk straight in.

Yea they are different fan bases, but let’s be honest here, this is Australia, there is overlap and competition at the fringes. There are 100% people who go to south Melb games or Preston games now who at one point had been attending or could be swayed to attend victory games. Or people who went to south games in the nsl but moved over to victory when they were at their peak. Or people who were at Marconi or Sydney united or Sydney Olympic in the nsl but were going to wanderers games at their peak. You have your core fan bases at every club, but you also have your casual fans who are the difference between a 18,000 crowd at a Melb derby, and 50,000 crowd 10 years ago. And are the difference between a 1,500 crowd at Heidelberg v a 10,000 cup final crowd. Or a 1,500 crowd at Sydney united or a 15,000 crowd at the cup final a few years back. That’s just my 2c
I saw 3 people at Lakeside wearing Victory merch on Saturday - Im guessing catching a Championship game before heading to AAMI.... that was pretty much it... - You should all be proud of me I didnt tell them to fark off either :)

Yes last season at Bulleen was a total disaster - Juve under a decent coach in Barbieri will be in with a shout - VPL1 honestly I could not pick a top 6 just about any team in the league could win it - its gonna be super competitive
always been too much internal politics at bulleen imo for them to take the next step as a club, they clearly had the resources and facilities. It’s always about who you know, who’s uncle is on the committee etc

Im sure that you are right, they have a great set-up there, facilities 2nd to none and seriously should be in NPL but they havent had a coach since Fausto that could really garner the belief to really go for it (Fausto) needed another season didnt get it then 2 seasons of nearly-ness (is that a word) and last seasons debacle of clueless kick, run and hope for the best was a total disaster. The new coach is Iacopo La Rocca so not sure what to expect this season a few players have moved on but they have a strong U23s set-up so who knows

He’s a good man Fausto, good coach. I
recall the days when Matt Leckie was running around at the Veneto club. They were getting decent crowds back then

If that's the case, then teams would need to plan months in advance in order to secure the best airfare pricing to reduce costs.

I'd be curious to know if a home and away season with 8-10 teams would be more financially viable given it would be largely made up of VIC/NSW teams, and that would reduce travel/accommodation costs.
Yeah, to start of with, I'd have NSW/Vic teams only, but to be fair, there aren't really any teams outside these two states that are ready to commit full time unless you get a new team from say Tasmania.

Do you think the end of season overseas trip may have done more harm than good? Did the players get much of a break?

The reason I ask is that given South’s terrible NPL season, we didn’t play finals so our players had a chance to be rested before this competition.
Yeah look potentially

With that plus a long NPL season combined.

Cant fault the players or staff they're trying and working hard

When it doesn't want to go in it just doesn't.

To be fair the club have done very well to get back to this position at all, massive effort to constantly be levelling up year after year, surely they’re allowed a consolidation year at some point

Peios back from injury soon I hear, plus Zoki is going to raid Avondale's pantry dry... you'll be right next season :P

Should have won all 3 home games. Then again could easily already be eliminated if not for Scott in goals. Feel like the team is underachieving relative to the squad that was put together but Zoki will fix all that anyway.
