So much is out of date..

Why ive actually come to terms with the concept that only an overarching football 'dictatorship' could get things in line across the board. A footballing 'fascist doctrine' if you will.

I've actually suggested that same thing on here hahaha...

It's times like these that I wouldn't mind a dictator type to get everyone in the room and say "this is what's going to happen, jump on or miss out". Otherwise nothing will ever get done, at least in my lifetime.

Terrible weather in Melbourne today. That impacted the crowd attendance at Lakeside.

South very easily 2-0 winners over Broadmeadow Magic. Top spot secured, and we hopefully rest some players against Moreton City before our quarter final match the week after.

Whoever specified the colours on this Broadmeadow kit wasn’t thinking. White numbers on a yellow kit are pretty much invisible.

Agree - was hard to see shirt numbers today on the Magic players.

100% the spokeperson for the FA though said the crowd metrics have already been exceeded and that this was not the main criteria for this comp. After the boxes of crowds, niche grounds, etc etc have all been met now its - Sustainability that is the key, which we all agree on and desire, but HERE also is the issue, and why distrust remains, especially from sticking a product in the most obscure times perhaps at others requests (noted and never debunct as to who that is), that we get natural progression to that the thought was to create the foundations for failure while hyping the expectation for success via some unachievable perfection (to say look we tried it and failed) Question is whose perfection model is set by whose bar, (FA, APL or the clubs themselves)?

The crowd as a be all and end all metric keeps coming to the forefront from opponents of the NST not its proponents as you well know.

From a Football Australia perspective, I can’t see why they would be disappointed on how the Australian Championship has unfolded. We’ve seen good crowds at South, Preston, APIA, Marconi, and Wollongong. Plenty of great goals and real engagement with many football fans that won’t attend or are not interested in the A League.

Football Australia should have enough positive stories to see:
- genuine interest in a second tier competition
- venues that are compact and financially viable
- great social media engagement
- free to air TV coverage
- developing future players, coaches, administrators, and volunteers

This should be enough to attract sponsorship to offset the costs involved.

We’ve seen good crowds at South, Preston, APIA, Marconi, and Wollongong. Plenty of great goals and real engagement with many football fans that won’t attend or are interested in the A League.

Football Australia should have enough positive stories to see:
- genuine interest in a second tier competition
- venues that are compact and financially viable
- great social media engagement
- free to air TV coverage
- developing future players, coaches, administrators, and volunteers

This should be enough to attract sponsorship to offset the costs involved.

They surely dont have any reason to be dissapointed, majoroty of stakehokders have done well to show this to be a success and desirable.. the clubs have all done their parts. Time for the FA to do its part as promised.

FA wont have earnt trust until then.

the final metric will be transfers. They have unnamed targets for number of player sales either overseas or a league. All other metrics have been exceeded, on top of Joseph I confirmed this

Looking at the last 3 seasons of the oz cup and this years championship its pretty lopsided, they look an entire division apart

I'm going off wikipedia so only have the r32 onwards. Does anyone know of other games between the feds the last few years?
Vic have also had a lot more upsets against a league sides and deeper runs in the oz cup the last few years

They have performed better than expected however they are in an easy group Broadmeadow are poor and Sydney Olympic are way off the mark South Melbourne have coasted the group without breaking sweat so they have a real chance to go through now

Some big results today.

Avondale as expected beat NWS Spirit and secured top spot in Group C. Preston could not break down Canberra Croatia and now must go to Avondale in the last round to win to ensure they finish second.

Metrostars did APIA a massive favour by beating Bayswater Inter to set up a winner take all final clash.

I can’t see much changing in Group B. Heidelberg should defeat South Hobart away and even if Wolves beat Marconi, they have a massive goal difference to make up, which is realistically impossible.

Potential APIA v Marconi Italian derby in the quarters could be good. Would be better at the Marconi club than Leichhardt oval, but still a good one

Morton City just need a draw against South on Friday night.
Olympic will know what they need when they play on Sunday. They need to beat Broadmeadow, and Morton City to lose, and make up the 4 goal difference, and maybe a better "goals for"!

Group B:
Is pretty much all over. Wollongong need to belt Marconi by 6 goals to progress.

Group C:
Is completely open. Preston play Avondale on the Saturday, so NWS and Canberra will know what they need to do on Sunday. A Preston draw would 99% rule out Canberra progressing. A Preston win and NWS v Canberra is for pride.

Group D:
MetroStars and SU58 play first on Sunday. Metro need a win and for Bayswater to lose in the later Sunday match. If Baywater manage a good win against APIA, there could be a shock exit for APIA!

I thought the difference was 11 goals? Either way good luck with that, this group is pretty much decided as per 1 and 2 imo.

This one remains interesting, still think Apia is too good especially at home and will have added incentive to avoid bergers, baysie is not good enough on the road, metro breathing doen their neck will come out all guns blaxing vs su58 id expect.

It is, but they are playing each other. So six goals up for Wollongong, and six goals down for Marconi, would be enough for the Wolves.

Metro Stars gave Bayswater a football lesson at Klemzig after they got going in the second half.
Nice goals from Wall and Sotira. I'm surprised Bayswater have done so well in this competition as they have no creativity in midfield.
And their coaching staff a bunch of loud mouth thugs who received two yellow cards from the ref.

No doubt imo a large part of bayswaters success thus far has been down to them making effective use of the sizeable home advantage playing in wa gives them. Getting results on the road is a different matter. All credit to them, they’ve done very well thus far and played it very intelligently, but the draw away Sydney united was under fairly unique circumstances
