General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

Everything in Western society is a business product.

South Melbourne itself is a football business franchise (OFC License, AUSC License, License! License!), Hellas died when it merged with Hakoah in the traditional sense. Phoenix club needed. Application to the A-league, 15m bid (decent) Franchise!
You can repeat it until you turn blue in the face champ, doesnt make it true... The Aleague bid would have indeed made us a franhcise, thank Christ we got rejected by the world' most prestigious soccer league...

I don’t think Ethnic clubs should join the current A-League for that reason. Joining the A-League, whether rightfully or not, would require the adoption of a secular and universal identity which I don’t think would be good for clubs like Hellas as they would lose a key part of their identity. What makes South Melbourne “Hellas” is its Greek identity.

However, when pro/rel comes of course I would like to see Ethnic clubs be able to get promoted and relegated, whilst still keeping their proud identity. Ethnic clubs wouldn’t be the same without their identity, culture, food, language, etc. This doesn’t make racial abuse okay, but they shouldn’t have to give up their identity to join the A-League.

In fact, I think if South Melbourne did join the A-League, most of the old fans would boycott the club to the point where they go broke (the fans would probably form a phoenix club though which would survive, similar to how AFC Wimbledon was formed by Wimbledon fans angry about the club relocating to Milton Keynes to become MK Dons, or how Man United fans founded United of Manchester).

I have NO idea where you are getting your information from but whatever either someone is pulling your leg really really hard or you have an amazing fantasy life.

Tend to agree with most posts you post, HSF.

Don't agree with the first sentence though.

More good football on show in Jets v WSW, and, the Big Blue.

Surprised to see Denis Genreau on the bench for Vic and Rhys Youlley on the bench for SFC? Is Talay doing to Rhys Y what he did to Max Burgess? I'm sure Mark Milligan will be interested in RY if Talay doesn't want him! Courtney Perkins is too good for the bench too.

Astonished at the Jets' whiz kids, plus Dylan Sicluna for WSW. DS is very confident using his Zidane 360 degree turn.
