General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

I mean these type of arguments go around in circles but for me nobody is really wrong.

Mono is right a league is a corporate franchise league and p and r is vital to a football ecosystem

However shark man is right we can't change things if we want to watch the best Australian football we need to support the a league teams
I honestly dont understand the angst.. Why NOT embrace the fact that you are watching an entertainment product put on by a bunch of franchises?... People walk around with Aleague jerseys, just like they walk around with Jack Daniels or Jim Beam T shirts... or carry bumbags around their chest with fake GUCCI labels on them... If you consider a "polished product" the thing you align with you get no beef from me.. its NOT for me but its no skin off my nose... Im here to fight fro my club and all the others like mine, no matter how much money we have, what trophies we do or don't win and what league on the pyramid we are in..

Maybe we lock you both in a room for 24 hours.

You watch 12 hours of npl including south Melbourne in club world cup

12 hours of the best of a league including Sydneys dominance under Arnold

Like this?

Haha I look forward to every game personally

I don't care if the clubs are franchises or not. I watch the A League because the best players currently residing in Australia play for them.
And I like to watch the best players in action.
I feel that if you don't want to watch the best players in the country in action, even ocasionally, you are losing connection with Australian football.
I support Adelaide United because they are my home town team (we played in the NSL too!). The club started out of necessity, after the demise of WA Hellas, and Adelaide City pulling out of the nsl. The town had to have a team on the national stage, otherwise big football would have shrunk to state league clubs playing in front of 500 spectators.
Unlike Mono, I don't have a state league club to follow, being an anglo. The clubs I played for years ago are long gone and the remaining clubs don't interest me.
Australian soccer has always suffered because our clubs' tradition is weak. It can't compete with AFL clubs with 150 years of tradition.
Australian soccer clubs that are almost that old, eg Adamstown, Balgownie etc never developed into big clubs.
South Melbourne's much hyped tradition is not much really- even Adelaide City have been Oceania Club champions, it was pretty easy ;)

Yep, South Melbourne hanging their hat on being Oceania Team of the Century is laughable.

New Zealand aside, the rest of Oceania are teams who have hairdressers, farmers and car wash dealers playing for them.

I definitely watch the a league because its where you see the most future socceroos

also has the brisbane roar

And yet you still haven’t been to the great Greek pilgrimage site in peninsular Malaysia called Malaka, malaka.
It’s usually spelt Malacca in English (Melaka in Malay, as opposed to μαλάκας malakas which is a Greek insult meaning “wanker”), but yes that’s a real place for those wondering. I have been to Malaysia, but not yet to Malacca.

Everything in Western society is a business product.

South Melbourne itself is a football business franchise (OFC License, AUSC License, License! License!), Hellas died when it merged with Hakoah in the traditional sense. Phoenix club needed. Application to the A-league, 15m bid (decent) Franchise!
