The Australian National Football Team General Discussion*OFFICIAL*

Really want to see Poppa adjust the formation next game from a 3421 to 352.
Let Irakunda play up next to Toure as striker like he does for club and put Metcalfe or one of the AM's in a 10 role to boost the middle.
That would be better for Boyle too who plays striker now only for hibs

A few years ago, probably between the group and UAE playoff, I was really worried we'd have a national team of payers who'd be indifferent and just overwhelmed by the developments in Asia and world football and we'd fall off totally. Thankfully then we cut the deadwood and one may argue some of the older guard like Sainsbury needed to go. Not scapegoating Sainsbury just an example I can think of.

We then had Rowles come in undee the most intense pressure and play a simple effective game and then have a great world cup being so raw. Now we've got these above lads coming through with fuel to burn. The best part is that they care about doing well. There's pride in actually delivering. Really exciting times.
Yeah agree like seeing Circati in tears in a post-game interview when asked what it means to play for Australia.

I watched Morocco beat Argentina 2-0 in Chile this morning in the final of the U20 WC. I swear Popovic has been watching Morocco U20 under their coach Mohamed Ouhabi, or Ouhabi has been watching Socceroos. It was like watching us against Japan 1-0 at home,, Saudi 2-1 (A), Canada 2-1 (A).
ARG MOR
Possession 75.2% 24.8%
Shots 20 8
Shots on Target 3 4

As an aside, Morocco has now made the semis of the Mens WC in Qatar 2022; the semis of the U23 Olympics Tornament in Paris 2024 and have now won the Mens U20 WC, 2nd African country to do so since Ghana. Love an underdog coming through!

Does Arzani have a scout stamp book or something? Baffling he's not seen much game time the last 2 windows but hasn't played much for his club either. Badalato killing it and should be considered for next window.

I've argued a fair bit against selecting the younger players playing well at club level, as opposed to the regulars, but after recently doing a fair bit of stat compilation and analysis of a lot of new Roos, in a few games, a best starting eleven with all fit looks very different from a few months ago.

If players continue with their current trajectory at club level, a best team could like this ?

...................................Ryan

.................Geria.........Circati.........Rowles

Italiano.........O'Neill.............Balard............J. Bos

...........Metcalfe..........M.Toure.......Iran

Against a speedy attacking team this is the aforementioned. Burgess, Souttar and Circati get skinned for pace if they have to go wide and try to engage speedy wingers. Geria and Rowles do this better.

Also, Irvine must be aged about 32- 33. His body is unlikely to last much longer for his high box to box work-rate.

The ensuing could be more applicable to a powerful aerial opposition in attack.

..................................Ryan

...............Circati.......Souttar........Burgess

Miller..............O'Neill..........Balard..........J.Bos

.............Metcalfe......Toure...........Iran

The Roos have strengthened, because Genreau used to be selected. He is a vastly improved player now, and isn't deemed good enough.

Despite Hrustic ostensibly being a regular in the Eredivisie and Boyle being a scorer of a lot of goals in Scotland, the figures, and analysis, from lots of slowed down and repeated replays, aren't good for them.

Yet I'd surmise Teague, Jake Hollman and Nisbet have more to offer the Roos than these two, despite current unfavourable club scenarios. I'm sure Boyle's big game experience helps though.

Against weaker Asian teams who often play Deep Defensive Blocks/ Partial Presses, I'm sure Hrustic, Arzani and Tilio, would star in breaking them down.

I think Badalato needs a sustained run playing senior football, before senior Roo selection, JS.

His form last in this last week has been very good. So have a few young teammates.

Those in Aus and overseas who’ve watched Arzani at Melb Vic know what he can do.

Former Melb Vic captain, Miranda, said Arzani is the best natural footballer he has seen in Aus. He said sometimes they would give him the ball just to intimidate the opposition.

Melb Vic are really missing him ATM. I’m missing watching the Daniel A show at MV!
