The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

Regardless, real disgraceful showing for Sydney united this comp has been. Certainly no where near their best on or off the field
real worry to be honest

police presence might be a mitigating factor for the crowds. Killed a league crowds too.

On the field has been a real problem, taking nothing away from metrostars

Honestly - how was that not a red card?
Watching live you think red card straight away. But the replay shows the Marconi player deliberately stepping and stopping over the top of him and then went to drop the knee into him. Don't blame him for lashing out at a vulnerable spot haha. If you're going to resort to shithousery then accept the consequences. FAFO. Both yellows was the best call I reckon.

Two extraordinary goal mouth flurries by an attacking Marconi and no goal in either.

Several blocked shots in the first round with a keeper out of the picture and a single player blocking the first two shots at close range before another player blocked the third.

A headed ball onto the crossbar, with the same player then driving the rebounding ball onto the side post and bodies blocking a third attempt.

Incredible luck and desperation from Wolves both times.

I think Wolves actually played the better system of football but just didn't have the skill level to pull it off. Really well constructed attacks and ball movement with poor execution of passes giving it away all game.

Marconi deserving winners - they just had the better quality across the park.
Thomas James should of been sent off.

Once a grub, always a grub.

Sydney united fans really do look like they’re boycotting now. Smaller than their average npl attendance surely
Correct. Messages went out during the week to boycott rest of the games due to the clubs mismanagement of this tournament and police

I for one didnt and sadly went, Raptor riot police again. More cops than fans. I dont think 500 people went.

On the field we are shambles. Cant wait for the tournament to be over.

It’s an interesting dichotomy.

On the one hand, it’s not good for the future of NSD (in any format), that a major clubs fans are not participating.

But on the other hand, their boycott shows they care. And that this tournament matters.

However, and without knowing anything about the background on this issue, the persistent police/security presence is a big problem. It appears the authorities are hell bent on clamping down on any perceived anti social behaviour.

Having said that, I cannot say I’ve seen any obvious security presence at South games. ESPECIALLY against Preston.

There must be a competition between Sydney United and Sydney Olympic supporters about which supporter group can post the most complaints about their clubs ownership.

I must say though, it is pretty embarrassing that some of the foundation clubs are getting beaten every week. Wollongong are probably the worst of the lot - they looked terrible yesterday. This can't happen again next season.

The only thing that makes sense is that the police are not clamping down on perceived anti-social behaviour - they have to believe that there is a real and actual threat of violence or criminal activity.

Are there idiot groups and chat forums out there where dickheads talk about 'bringing it' to the game? I am sure there are and that they do not in any way represent the clubs or community involved - but the police may take them as a serious and credible threat.

While the club has to foot the ridiculous bill for their presence, nothing at all about the police presence needs to be read as targeting normal, good natured, passionate fans...unless the supporters are being neutral at worst (not even a sneer or gesture in passing) and police are being antagonistic towards them anyway.

Going back to Preston and South Melbourne, if you look at the Australian Championship Facebook post yesterday where they used the term ‘Makedonia’, it triggered a flurry of angry posts by Greeks.

Not one post was about the game.

Somehow there has not been any trouble on the terraces (yet) between the two sets of supporters.

Our hardcore fans and club president havent liked each other for 5+ years, but it feels like this is the icing on the cake now.

The whole community have turned its back on him. AGM should be interesting, he needs to resign.

Thats part of the beauty though.. the underdog doing the number on the established always makes for a good story.. it will also avoid complacency from the foundation 8! Predictability is what we dont want... if anytjing this will most likely make everyone take it way more seriously the next time round..

Was more cops at Preston vs Avondale than any Preston v South game over the last 2 years or Heidelberg vs Preston etc. No issues at any of them. If this is the way forward...

We've controlled the game but Broadmeadow have torched us on counter a few times and missed a one on one from it. We will need a 2nd goal at least to see this out.
