Socceroos vs Canada/USA Oct 25

I think we can put any hope for Elder and Luongo to rest. Robertson is a massive thing though. So does he get the full media spotlight?

Segecic is nursing something. The wiki says we're playing Japan away then in India against Argentina in November.

As I said on another forum - my big concern is keeper. At this stage no-one is really pushing Maty and even the younger NT keepers don't look that good. At this stage he is on the 2030 plane as well, maybe even 2034. As a nation that prides themselves on keepers the cupboard really is quite sparse with no-one really standing up and saying pick me.

Hopefully not a grudge.

How my eyes never truly grasp Karacic is in a squad. Ideally he replaces Miller. Miller only looks better at RWB because he's played in the role so many times. Every one else trialled is still fitting in.

Behich is playing now. Hopefully that's the end of it. Popovic did say thanks to those who helped us qualify but now it's time to look at other options for the best fit. I wonder who he was referring to?

Gauci is surprisingly better for Australia than at club level. He's not exactly been tested for Australia. He was roughed up on set plays by China. Having Japan away experience is valuable.

The long term prospects look slim. Hall is my hope. He needs senior football. The name escapes me but there was one other decent prospect.

I thought Izzo did well against NZ - I'd be comfortable with him.

Baffled to see Duke back and I've never rated Hrustic or Karacic. Geria can play RB so may put pressure on Miller.

Relieved to see Balard, Toure and Irankunda picked again and delighted for Cammy Devlin. He's the sort of player we can definitely use in some matches but could be a liability in Asia where robust players get showered with cards like confetti.

Arzani is a puzzle - I do like watching him play but he doesn't warrant selection on form/minutes.

And a very pleasant surprise to see Robbo in. He and Balard could form an eight year partnership.

What I want is to see these fringe players get that bit more time on the pitch. We threw Geria in and got some great insights and now we know we have an assured alternate.

Even if you were comfortable with Izzo - he is only 2 and a bit years younger than Maty and has performed worse in lower leagues than Maty over his career. If he hasn't pushed him yet he is not the long term answer.

He's young enough for the next WC cycle so that will do me.

Has had a couple of MOTMs this season for Randers.

Are we sure they picked the right Nicholas? Has Daggers played much?

Sorry - never impressed me.

Pros
Genuine shot stopper but not at the level of Maty.

Cons
Does not instill confidence in his defence. Doesn't sweep well. Also doesn't set a wall well and then rarely trusts it.

I mean look at his kicking game against NZ. I don't think I've ever seen worse. The modern game has seen poor distribution and kicking to be a defensive liability inviting the opponent back in.

Hannover's keeper on loan now is a great ball player but can't stop shit so a balance is needed.

From a shotstopping and ball catching perspective, he did very well against NZ.

And let's not forget Maty has a howler in him. I can think of two straight away in WC finals plus a few for the CCM.

I can think of a lot more by Izzo for CCM

My view is everybody misunderstands Duke's place in the team (from the coaches perspective). He is a 50 cap incumbent. None of the other guys have done enough to outweigh his experience, his ability to press and the strength of his most recent socceroos performances. Botic, Carter and Yengi have not established themselves following their moves. Sapsford has started well and if he keeps up his performances he seems the most likely at this point.

Duke isn't getting a farewell match, he is on the plane as things stand at the moment, only behind Toure (who needs to maintain his fitness/form).

Barring injury / form, the Aliga guys will be back in November, Caceras, Behich, Borello and Velupillay.
Dukes a terrier who is an aerial threat. That's why he's picked. Daggers has the same profile.

I'd argue that Stamatelopoulos and Sapsford could provide similar defensive application, with better goal threat.

Sapsford feels like a duke and probably an upgrade
