Welcome. Enjoy the game in MontrealThanks grazorblade.
I'm an Ipswich Town supporter and Segecic was lively for Pompey when we met last weekend. I'll be in Montreal and looking forward to a good, competitive match. I am always wishing you well at the World Cup, so I figured I'd sign up here since I've been lurking for years.
The Good:
The Bad:
- Robertsons return. Didn't deserve it on club form but definitely glad to see him back in the fold. Great to see someone with his technical qualities as an option
- Devlins return. Deserved it on form. Tactically good to have a midfield option who can man mark or be used late to shut a game out.
- No Luongo is absolute madness from Popovic. He should be starting.
- No Sapsford. Should be ahead of Duke. On form should be ahead of Daggers. No slight on Daggers, i'm ok to see his inclusion, even if its early into his return from injury.
The Ugly:
I'm assuming Segecic omission is a deal with player and club rather than a huge mistake. If it’s a straight omission it'd be non-sense.
- Duke, Hrustic and Arzani are kinda pointless for various reasons. Be it club absence or being past it with better options ahead.
You ask some good questions. Probably only Popovic and his team can answer them. I'm not fussed with changes to the squad. The windows in Sept and Oct (and maybe even the Nov one) should be about giving the fringe players a chance to show what they can do before we pretty much get the final squad together in March. Not sure about Robertson. Have the issues that made him unavailable during the qualifiers been resolved or is it just that this is a friendly window?Hard to know what to make of this squad. I had expected to only see changes around the edges of the squad which appears to be the case. I would expect the same in November, probably want to maintain the core selections and see who fits in around that. The selection of the fringe guys is a bit odd.
Is Geria he a core guy for Popa? On the outer a club level for who knows what reason. Did play a full 90 recently.
Arzani is struggling for minutes, probably the strangest selection.
Robertson is right out of the blue. So many questions about this from club level to international. Why isn't he playing for Cardiff, not a minute, why did he now return for Aus?
Good to have a look at DAgostino I suppose, just back and playing now. Was Sapsford a better pick in this spot?

Mixed thoughts. Positive that Robertson is seemingly in the fold again but would have picked Luongo. Similarly would have selected Sapsford and Italiano in this window rather than some of these guys that aren't getting club minutes. Would be nice to have a short list of 33-35 players by the end of the yearThe Good:

Getting really disillusioned with Popovic in all honesty. If someone on here had said a week ago that Segacic wouldn’t get picked and Robertson would no one would have believed them. It seemed as if he was heading towards a Peru cap.
Don’t get too comfortable, as soon as the A League gets going again I have strong suspicions that Caceres will be back. Unfortunately. Will be interesting to hear from Popa in the next squad announcement press conference on how the tide has turned relating to Robertson. If he can start playing regularly again he can certainly add that creativity we need.
Also I get Duke is a safe pick, and Popa probably feels a little indebted to him for his performance in the Saudi game, but geez surely we've moved on now, especially with some of the younger strikers coming through in Botic and Sapsford. On the bright side at least Popa didn't revert back to Brattan and Caceras![]()
Before the squad was announced Segecic knew he was not selected, so clearly he had been contacted by management. He mentioned “getting his body right” so he seems to have a niggle. I like the squad. The ones who probably should have been selected on form are Sapsford and Luongo instead of Duke and Robertson. Duke is a known quantity in the twilight of his career, though Robertson’s selection will please some people that want him locked in with caps.Popovic is really doing jobs for the boys here.
Arzani over Segecic is a fucking joke.
Yep, this is how I saw it as well, Segecic already knew he was not selected, so in contact with Popa. Before the squad was announced Segecic knew he was not selected, so clearly he had been contacted by management.
