Segecic making the comment about getting the body right shows he must have a slight fitness issue. Popovic wouldn't take the risk there. So be it.

Hopefully he gets an opportunity in November. I would have liked to see him on the field for us, just to see how he goes at this level. There aren't too many more opportunities to allow fringe players to show what they can do.

Watching Sega play I do get the feeling he lacks an elite engine at this stage in his career. Have to remember he was used a lot off the bench last season for Sydney so building up that fitness for repeated efforts at max intensity takes time.

No doubt he will be a valuable asset for us come World Cup if he can stay injury free.

I recall a comment made by a Portsmouth fan, after the game where Segicic scored his second goal of the season along the lines that Segicic had been largely anonymous for the first half of that match. He scored his goal in the second half of the game. Don't know if that was a legitimate comment or not, but if true may point to him going missing in matches. Popovic strikes me as a manager who demands consistent involvement and performance throughout a game, and indeed through a long tournament such as the world cup. Thinking this may have played a part in his non selection. If it is the issue I hope he can address it before the final world cup squad is selected.

I think I watched that game and 100% he was missing for large parts. That is part of his game that he only needs a moment to hurt the opposition but still not ideal in the modern game.

He pretty quickly seems to sort of jog around in the press rather than have a lot of energy about him and I think this is representative of what he needs to work on with his body/fitness.

His saving grace is that he has a HUGE desire and hunger to demand the ball so he can impact the game. An innate ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck is much harder to coach than fitness.

This seems like a mistake, playing decent minutes. Still November I guess...

Another Popovic masterclass in man management incoming!!! He drags Segacic to the other side of the frign planet, doesn't give him any game time in 2 friendlies to show what he can bring to the side & then tells him he's not getting selected for the next window!!! You can't make this shit up!!! We need a player to be able to come off the bench & score a goal for us, which Segacic has proven he can do!!

I guess we all have to just hope it all works out.....

I think Segecic may have a slight fitness question despite scoring last night. He commented on getting the body right so we can only hope there has been some liaising there and November is a quick turnaround. Honestly, he could play both games and score 6 goals but he won't be locked in so it's all meaningless until it's official. These camps under Popovic don't necessarily build the best rapport.

The wiki has Australia playing in Japan in November in the Kirin Challenge Cup and then in India against Argentina.

And that's the biggest problem - they don't feel connected or a part of the set up, if they are left out. Arnie had his faults, but the vibe around the squad always felt upbeat & positive, where everyone seems to be walking on eggshells with Popovic in charge

That's right. I suppose every manager has their group. Arnold set the right standard but it meant players like Elder, Dougall and Davidson among others didn't really fit.

Popovic is dead serious in earning a spot but he doesn't back it up with some of his picks. Recent selections however show he's seeing the light, albeit obvious with Bos, Balard and Toure.

The squads are both out for the North American sides:

CANADA
Goalkeepers: Maxime Crépeau, Portland Timbers (MLS); James Pantemis, Portland Timbers (MLS); Dayne St. Clair, Minnesota United (MLS).

Defenders: Zorhan Bassong, Sporting Kansas City (MLS); Moïse Bombito, OGC Nice (France); Derek Cornelius, Rangers FC (Scotland); Luc de Fougerolles, FCV Dender EH (Belgium); Richie Laryea, Toronto FC (MLS); Niko Sigur, Hajduk Split (Croatia); Joel Waterman, Chicago Fire (MLS).

Midfielders: Ali Ahmed, Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS); Tajon Buchanan, Villarreal CF (Spain); Mathieu Choinière, Los Angeles FC (MLS); Stephen Eustaquio, FC Porto (Portugal); Ismaël Koné, US Sassuolo Calcio (Italy); Liam Millar, Hull City (England); Jayden Nelson, Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS); Jonathan Osorio, Toronto FC (MLS); Nathan Saliba, RSC Anderlecht (Belgium); Jacob Shaffelburg, Nashville SC (MLS).

Forwards: Jonathan David, Juventus FC (Italy); Promise David, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgium); Cyle Larin, Feyenoord (Netherlands); Tani Oluwaseyi, Villarreal CF (Spain).

UNITED STATES
GOALKEEPERS (4): Chris Brady (Chicago Fire; 0/0), Matt Freese (New York City FC; 9/0), Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew; 3/0), Matt Turner (New England Revolution; 52/0)

DEFENDERS (8): Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew; 12/1), Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic/SCO; 19/0), Alex Freeman (Orlando City; 9/0), Mark McKenzie (FC Toulouse/FRA; 22/0), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC; 77/1), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace/ENG; 33/3), Antonee Robinson (Fulham/ENG; 50/4), Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati; 35/3)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United/ENG; 53/9), Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake; 14/3), Weston McKennie (Juventus/ITA; 60/11), Aidan Morris (Middlesbrough/ENG; 9/0), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders; 39/0), James Sands (FC St. Pauli/GER; 11/0), Tanner Tessmann (Olympique Lyon/FRA; 8/0), Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen/GER; 25/3)

FORWARDS (6): Patrick Agyemang (Derby County/ENG; 12/5), Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco/FRA; 19/6), Christian Pulisic (AC Milan/ITA; 80/32), Tim Weah (Marseille/FRA; 45/7), Haji Wright (Coventry City/ENG; 17/5), Alex Zendejas (Club América/MEX; 13/2)

Canada is missing its two starting fullbacks – Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich and Alistair Johnston from Celtic. Moïse Bombito, IMO as a Canadian supporter, is our most important defender, but is just returning from injury and it seems like will only start one of Canada’s two matches this window. Which would leave teenager Luc de Fougerolles to start in his place.

Sigur and Laryea are likely to start at fullback with Cornelius the other central defender. Buchanan, Eustaquio, Koné, and Jonathan David will almost all surely start. The left wing and the No. 9 are both up in the air. I think Ahmed probably starts on the left and then it could be any of the other three forwards playing up top.

There are a few decisions left to make, but adding Davies and Johnston would make this a squad of 26 and that feels very close to the final squad for next summer.

It looks like the Americans are sticking to the back-three they used in September, but they’re missing Segino Dest at right back and left back Antonee Robinson isn’t fully fit and may not play significant minutes, so that leaves Arfsten and Freeman as wingbacks unless Weah/McKennie/Roldan end up out there.

Tyler Adams’ wife is expecting so he’s out. Ricardo Pepi from PSV and Johnny Cardoso from Atletico Madrid are both injured. So is McGlynn, Reyna, and a few other fringe squad players. Joe Scally from Borussia Monchengladbach and Yunus Musah from Atalanta both seem to be out of favour.

Pochettino had been tinkering a lot, but this feels much closer to their final squad then we’ve seen since last spring. That said, I do think there will be more squad rotation from the U.S., so it’s hard to project who may actually start for them in Denver.

welcome to the forum

we will be short harry souttar, jackson irvine and riley mcgree as wel as exciting youngster adrian segecic but will be interesting to see how we go

Thanks grazorblade.

I'm an Ipswich Town supporter and Segecic was lively for Pompey when we met last weekend. I'll be in Montreal and looking forward to a good, competitive match. I am always wishing you well at the World Cup, so I figured I'd sign up here since I've been lurking for years.

oh thanks for joining! Hope you enjoy the community!

USA and Canada will be a tough challenge, particularly in their back yard. Our coach has a habit of winning ugly so who knows

Saw some Australia section tickets were still available in Montreal. If I were to fly over I'd have to go to both games. Not to be.
