As for the thumbnail: well, obviously. The AFL and the NRL are already huge and as a global product there’s little major interest outside Oceania (and perhaps Ireland for AFL). The A-League only has about 3.7 million true fans in Australia and if you’re looking at a global market, sure the potential is limited but at least it’s a global sport.

Of all the things, this would probably bug me the least. They kinda already have it in many leagues around the world when required. I assume the A-League would just make it a blanket rule for every match across the season, instead of just the wet-bulb times.

Ahh but that's the thing, it's actually a worse when it's wet because your sweat can't evaporate and cool you down. That's the idea behind the wet-bulb, it's not just about temperature.

I'm not sure there's a Perth Glory thread. I don't think there's a Catania thread anymore either (I think I had that at FourFourTwo) - so I think this might be the best place to bring up now.

In light of apparent reports (that I can't be bothered looking for historically while I'm at work at the moment) that Perth Glory were late on player payments recently, Catania FC (also owned by Ross Pelligra) has put out this statement today:

Following its previous statement issued on Thursday, August 7, the Board of Directors of Catania FC regrets to announce that it has been unable to resolve the technical and administrative issues in time to meet the August 10 deadline.

The ownership and the Board are working around the clock to remedy the situation and deeply regret the disappointment this will cause our city and our supporters.

The ownership, the Board and the Club will accept the consequences with humility and responsibility, while remaining fully committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible. We are confident that the season ahead, which has already begun on a positive note, will be worthy of the Catania name, while on the pitch we will continue to fight for our sporting objectives.

The previous statement it refers to:

The members of the Catania FC Board of Directors regret to announce that the Club will not be able to meet today’s deadline for submitting the bank guarantee, due to a number of technical and bureaucratic issues, also arising from the deadline being brought forward by three days because of the Coppa Italia match against Vicenza.

The Board has made every effort to accelerate the resolution of these matters in order to meet the deadline, unfortunately without success. The focus remains on August 10, the original deadline for the bank guarantee, and work is continuing around the clock to ensure it is met.

The Club is aware that failing to meet today’s deadline is not the outcome that the people of Catania, the Rossazzurri supporters and Italian football were expecting. However, a number of unforeseen issues and obstacles arose during the process, making it impossible to bring forward the submission of the bank guarantee.

Summary from an Italian news outlet:

Catania failed to lodge the required financial guarantee by the August 10 deadline. The club's Board of Directors announced this in an official statement. This failure to comply will certainly result in a league penalty - the extent of which remains to be determined. It is a very serious matter that mirrors the events of two summers ago.

Main reason I'm commenting all this here is, does this mean Pelligra and Glory actually do have money issues?
