General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

Probably the best we can bet. October starts are also way too late as the rest of the world is well underway. We simply need more clubs at a sustainable level. We needn't worry about big arenas just yet.
Using this season as a guide. Observe every FIFA break. Start the weekend 15-17th August. Assume 33 rounds as per Adam Peacock.

Run from that weekend until after the October FIFA break with
Friday 6pm
Saturday 4pm, 6pm, 8pm
Sunday 4pm, 6pm

After the October break
6pm and 8pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday until the March break.

After the March break
Friday 6pm
Saturday 4pm, 6pm, 8pm
Sunday 4pm, 6pm

Grand final same weekend as this season.

If you go to 14 teams you need to have a couple of mid weeks. 16 teams you probably revert to 2 rounds. Ideally we end up with 18 and play 34 rounds plus finals plus Australia plus Champions League games.

The other advantage of the August kickoff is that teams during pre-season can interact with junior training nights before the local season is over and encourage the kids to come as a team or bring their parents.

There's so much wrong with Peacock's article that I couldn't take it seriously. Seems a few people have though.

I welcome the brainstorming, but I think we can move on quickly from 90% of his ideas. Maybe because, with facts, I've shot down most of his points so many times in the past, the same old points keep getting regurgitated. It won't work/hasn't worked and it's tiring. It's just a distraction from what we could be doing instead.

With Adam Peacock's idea at least he's trying, no point shooting it down if someone doesn't offer an alternative view.

For me it's simple start the season in August, I don't know why the fixation of waiting for the egg ball codes to finish when almost every league is in action around the world whilst the players here are twiddling their thumbs to get going.
NPL players play more especially when the championship is at the end of the year so they get a year round season more than the a-league players do!

If the lack intensity of the games are the problem then have more night time games, if it means more simultaneous kick offs than so be it after all this is a football league not a TV series.

If you want to develop and sell players to overseas leagues and maximise your returns then the product has to be played in the best conditions possible its that simple, otherwise you will get half hearted results if players cant handle the intensity of training/games or get injuring prone along the way.

Perth have signed Tevere from Preston
Mate, bro, dude… you had me excited for a second. I thought you meant some Chamoionship player I hadn't heard of!

On a side note personally unless it's obvious by the context I say PNE or Preston North End for the English club and Preston Lions for the Australian club. Same with "Newcastle": Newcastle United for the English club, Newcastle Jets or just Jets for the Australian club.
