A Bench Press of 120 kg 1 rep Max, is impressive, LFC!
Thanks
I should know. I've failed to Bench Press 120kg on many occasions. Particularly, if you've never weighed more than 80kg.
Some of us skinny runts have some grunt
You must have worked hard to achieve this.
A combo of youth and being "active" - during my gym workout phase I was surfing alot and playing Prem football, so my upper body was well tuned combined with doing weights.
Can you set out your WTing program?
Been long ago to recall very well our routine but I seem to recall session breakdown was over a hour or so....3days on 1 off and repeat.
Shoulders/Back one session
Chest/Arms next session
Legs next

4sets each 8/10 reps done slowly.
I cracked 120 a number of times but maybe 3 odd reps each time - it was my max.
Mind you it wasn't about how heavy you pumped it was how disciplined you did the rep to achieve great .
We knew a few serious body builders back in the day and they showed us how many casuals like us didn't do it well/the many cheats people do at bicep/tricep curls and not having a straight back amongst other excercise's.
Bench its all about slow down and slow push up - bench "flies" with dumb bells, do them properly you feel the burn and firm improvement of your chest.
Used to luv it but I dislike the "gym" culture real wank.

Surfing/football/gym - then I also got influenced into the lycra set in prep for pre season football - used to do 70k rides to prime my skinny leg muscles.
That lasted a few years but I got spooked IF ever falling off at high speed having seen some carnage over the times and thoght F this.

Thanks

At last!

It must have been months to get this response, LFC!

3 reps at 120kg indicates 125kg plus for 1 rep. Without taking steroids this is serious big weight lifting, mate!

If done slowly these are called 'negatives'.

The 8-10 slow reps obviously did you a lot of good.

I kept training for 2 months at a time from 18 - age 25, getting towards BPing a 1 Rep Max of 115 kg, pulling a muscle then quitting. I often did reps of 5.

Then I found a martial arts weight training circuit regime, doing reps of 12- 20 per set, no rests in between sets, and I've stuck to it for 45 years - with heaps of modifications in the last 8 years.

I've rarely pulled muscles, but did a few weeks ago and I'm still struggling with a hip/glute/TFL/hip flexor/lumbar spine injury from overtraining.

I train in 3 different gyms, because I train a lot.

ZAP - at some ZAPs there is a posing culture. The one I go to tends to have more clients over age 35. There are about 20 Exercise Bikes, Cross Trainers, Rowing Machines, Treadmills, Mountain Climbers, which have good traffic. Few of the users are posers. This ZAP 24 hour tends to have a good culture.

YPTH - specialises in over 50s health and fitness. There are 5 Ex Physios and 2 Physios constantly working with small groups and individual clients. The health pros are all friendly, young, keen and enthusiastic. The gym culture is great. A lot of banter at times. There are quite a few MH, PTSD, and NDIS clients, which keeps it more sombre. I've learned heaps from the health pros. The clients are mainly over 50.

Home - mostly outside, so not great in bad weather. Nice not to have to wipe down equipment.

I know what you mean about gym culture though. I tend to avoid it in these gyms apart from ZAP occasionally.
