Australian transfers 25-26 Winter

Indonesian Super League sides Persebaya Surabaya and Persib Bandung are reportedly interested in signing Adelaide United captain Craig Goodwin during the January transfer window per Indonesian media, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Get farked. He's not going to kiss away a world cup with that surely?

O'Neill is also an emergency CB. did the job with aplomb at CCM an apparently in the MLS as well
While true he's played there, I can't think of anything worse to keep justifying his selection and not keep him honest.

It's too late now. Popovic needed to play some regularly but the fact he's had no competition and now the perfect time would be to add Robertson and Genreau to give him a kick start.

Then again. I say we must pick Devlin and then omit a centre back and O'Neill is 6th in line. We keep naming way too many centre backs. Picking just Miller and Geria gives us versatility but not the RWB we'd likely prefer with Italiano or Strain. Elder can also play LCB but I think Rowles is too senior to drop for Elder.

Got to say at least we're building even more depth for the next cycle and Asian Cup. A few of the older guard will likely retire from international football and others with silly moves and fades will make the pick easier for Popovic.

And surely Goodwin isn't going to leave Adelaide for the what the 5th or 6th time?!? He's just turned 34 and is captain of the club. No hard feelings if he leaves I guess but he's already done the move for money moves so going to Indonesia now would seem like an odd choice.

Crazy to leave mid season

Id be surprised if indonesia paid that much more?

It would also be difficult to make the world cup from indonesia you would think

Could do a Broadway show on his career 'Leaving Adelaide...Again!'

Absolutely love the guy and I think he just needs one more world cup. He's still smarter and sharper than most on his day.

It's a world cup and we can't just gift spots but I truly believe Degenek and Boyle have points to prove. The latter would really need to play out of his skin to justify selection when Velupillay is in such good form. I still think Kuol is a handy late game addition. Tulio is good but on the outer despite playing Saudi away.

We're spoiled for choice have stupidly selected regulars when I'd have liked to see someone like Tilio get a start in a friendly. You sit there against NZ wondering why the regulars are out there.

As much as I like Goodwin I don't think he has a spot on the plane to this WC unfortunately. If we were playing a 4-3-3 or something with wingers then yep go for it BUT in Poppa's system I don't think there is a role for him that someone else can't perform more effectively.

Mathew Ryan, Paul Izzo, Cameron Burgess, Jackson Irvine, Craig Goodwin, Mitch Duke, Martin Boyle might make the 2026 squad and the Asian cup early 2027 squad but that should be there swansong. Others may struggle too but these are 7 to replace very quickly

He was best in attack against Venezuela not harming his chances. He started well early then others got a run. His set plays were effective in a few qualifiers. Got to be in the squad at least.

I don't think he'll make the squad to be honest. He's 34 and we aren't lacking wingers.
Can't think of anyone else with better set plays, vision and awareness. He's ahead of many but I get there are others ahead of him too.

Popovic keeps narrowing up front which is correct once Bos returns. For me it's Irankunda as a winger ahead and McGree and Metcalfe will play the narrower roles somewhat giving forgoing wing play.

Stories about interest from Indonesian clubs seem to pop up every now and then, I remember the same when Rogic was near the end of his career. Doesn’t mean the player is actually interested.
I think right now with regards to Craig Goodwin getting a transfer to Indonesia, we should just take it with a grain of salt especially since there isn't really any substance to the rumours yet and they may well just be hearsay.

I have felt that Goodwin has been off the pace since coming back to Adelaide. Maybe the chance for a final good payday. I wouldn't be taking him to the WC on his current form.
