in summary: we have people who live and work in Australia and their business model is to actively steer Australian talent OS? Is the issue we don't not have enough opportunities?![]()
Meet the Western Sydney 16-year-old making stunning Serie A breakthrough
Antonio Arena has “intrigued” renowned coach Gian Piero Gasperini at AS Roma – but Australia’s latest soccer prodigy is representing Italy at junior level.www.smh.com.au

One thing that does bother me is when the decision seems to be more transactional or career motivated (not implying that for Arena, who knows). I remember seeing Daniel Georgievski asked about representing Macedonia and him talking about what it meant to him and his family. I can live with that. It really bothers me more if someone were to pick a euro nation because of convenience. Some of these kids are probably third generation.
It reeks of glory-hunting, really. I would’ve been happy for Kaz Patafta and Tarek Elrich if they’d chosen to play for![]()

Nice rewriting of history. Irankunda and Segecic both threatened to go to other nations. He has no problems with picking them. Triantis had only ever wanted to play for Australia and said as much.![]()
Popovic draws the line as young star chooses Greece over Socceroos
Tony Popovic says he’ll welcome any player who wants to represent Australia. “And the ones that don’t, I don’t welcome,” he said on Thursday.www.smh.com.au

Doesn't change my comment. Popa's actions are the exact opposite of what he is saying. If he wanted to play for Australia he would be
So do you mean he should hold it against players who talk openly about their international options? To be consistent?Doesn't change my comment. Popa's actions are the exact opposite of what he is saying.
That's what he said.So do you mean he should hold it against players who talk openly about their international options? To be consistent?
My guess is talking about who you might consider given the opportunity, not a big deal. He just won't sell the shirt.
I imagine he cares that they turn up when selected, demonstrate they want it during camps. Does not care if they answer media questions about their national team options honestly. That's what he said.
One of the first things Popovic said when he was appointed coach of the Socceroos is that he’d never “sell the jersey” to a player who was contemplating something different
Kind of refreshing. They'll be asked and give an answer but the more serious stuff is between him and the player out of the media's eye.I imagine he cares that they turn up when selected, demonstrate they want it during camps. Does not care if they answer media questions about their national team options honestly.
Yet it was Triantis that disappeared to Greece when he didn't get on the bench in his first squad selection. I think you are directing your ire the wrong way. The only person responsible for Triantis' decision is Triantis.Nice rewriting of history. Irankunda and Segecic both threatened to go to other nations. He has no problems with picking them. Ha ha!no worries, just invade greece then and then immediately liberate them
wars have been fought over stupider things![]()
