Alen Stajic speech on Australian football

That was Winston Churchill from memory.

"We shall fight all the bitches" or something along those lines.
".... and we must NEVER surrender"... indeed......

hahha don't get me started on that bloated alchy windbag, singlehandedly cause the slaughter of more Australian AND Greek soldiers in the past 120 years than any other human in history... and we quote him.....:mad::mad:

So allow a foreign culture to influence what you call the sport our Socceroos play?

Are you ashamed of Australian culture? I mean you DO sound liek someone who has never left the state let alone the country, why copy some Pom from the other side of the world?
So Johnny Warren was wrong to insist that the sport be called football then?

You piss and moan about "racism" yet are a racist yourself.

You'd have been the type to boo Adam Goodes had he stayed in football and not switched to Victorian Rules.

Who is Adam Goodes? And also, Johnny Warren is entitled to his opinion, doesn't make a jot of difference... he wasn't ashamed of who he was... he wanted to grow the sport

Funny how you don't want to grow the sport, you just want to remain the domain of post war Europeans and then whinge and complain the rest of the country doesn't care about it.

Anyways back on topic, Stajcic has totally nailed it and smashed a worldie here.

Stajcic's speech lobbed a grenade at those within the game who continue to rubbish the league in this country (eg. NSL bitters and Eurosnobs). The time has come to be positive about the A-League. The in-fighting has to stop and has to stop NOW.
people have been trying to pressure fans of nsl clubs to get on board with the a league for the sake of unity for 20 years. It doesn't really work and it doesn't strike me as particularly just.

Eurosnobs I'm not sure what to do with. I wrote an article about how our crowds are actually not unusual for a league with our level of wages, if anything we are overperforming and perhaps the continued slide is just a long term correction. In the early years of the a league I think crowds massively overperformed. There were of course some odd decisions along the way which didn't help - the war on active support and the grand final decision - but every franchise club bar adelaide united, whether they were introduced in the a league or nsl era has declined after an initial bang.

Unfortunately, the majority of football fans around the world are eurosnobs (I'm an aussie snob - I watch every a league/championship game and won't even watch the epl despite being in england because there are no aussies). The irony is that if eurosnobs are concerned about quality, if every eurosnob regularly attended the footy in Australia (whether a league or npl) there would be enough money in the game to lift the standard

It is what it is though and we have to find a way to make football work in Australia

Crazy we have football people who want our top flight league to fail. It's just fucking crazy.

Never seen rugby league or aussie rules people wanting the NRL and AFL to fail.
To be fair - the premise of the league was that the 'old' clubs were bad and unwanted when it formed.

You can't expect everyone to forgive and accept the new when it has taken 20 years before they even got back to mainstream acceptance in this Australian Championship series.

It is crazy that our sport has done itself so much long term damage on so many fronts.

When NRL had the superleague debacle plenty of people wanted it to fail. Same as the various forms of cricket. AFL won't have the problem because it is really one game and one system - no room/drive/need for a superleague when it already is.

Glory, Newcastle and Adelaide were all part of the NSL.

Some of these NSL clubs had 30 years to get there act together, look at Sydney United and Olympic, still a mess.

IMO, only Souths were hard done by. The rest were done for.

I think the idea that clubs need to hit a certain crowd average to play on the national stage is really holding us back

if every club that could play on the national team was allowed to and we sorted clubs into leagues we get the club with the biggest crowds in the top league anyway and we don't have all the division in the game. That goes even for back in the nsl days where franchises were introduced at the expense of existing clubs

If marconi can make playing on national stage work with crowd averages of 1-3k, why not? Their youth development even today is incredible (matt ryan and volpato came through them)

What fools a couple are here quoting against the clubs that are the feeders of the game in the first place.
Fact is the game needs these clubs full stop and that’s what feeds many of your APL Clubs.
Whats the issue regards eurosnobs - you can’t force people of their pref such is life.
RIMB exactly the break away super league in nrl caused a lot of harm and angst similar to what AL Lowy did - took sometime to settle issues and the scars are still there ie Storm winning titles and having them stripped from memory.
Staj was talking g about everything more than the old clubs - it was about the lack media and what the report.
Then the Feds etcetc he was about bringing it together finally not against old clubs.
Small mindedness much by a couple of posters and trolling more than anything.
