Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

One thing that does bother me is when the decision seems to be more transactional or career motivated (not implying that for Arena, who knows). I remember seeing Daniel Georgievski asked about representing Macedonia and him talking about what it meant to him and his family. I can live with that. It really bothers me more if someone were to pick a euro nation because of convenience. Some of these kids are probably third generation.

in summary: we have people who live and work in Australia and their business model is to actively steer Australian talent OS? Is the issue we don't not have enough opportunities?

It reeks of glory-hunting, really. I would’ve been happy for Kaz Patafta and Tarek Elrich if they’d chosen to play for 🇱🇦 and 🇱🇧 respectively because those nations needed them more than we did(the obv. exception in this scenario’d have been Tim Cahill in relation to 🇼🇸), but any Italo-Aussie kid who’s 3rd-gen or thereabouts who puts playing for the Azzurri ahead of the Socceroos is a console-kiddie Eurosnob melt that can get in the fcking bin every time💡

Doesn't change my comment. Popa's actions are the exact opposite of what he is saying.
So do you mean he should hold it against players who talk openly about their international options? To be consistent?
My guess is talking about who you might consider given the opportunity, not a big deal. He just won't sell the shirt.

That's what he said.

One of the first things Popovic said when he was appointed coach of the Socceroos is that he’d never “sell the jersey” to a player who was contemplating something different

Popovic on Segecic in press conference 'if he goes to play for Croatia that's his decision.'

He's basically saying I dare you to Segecic. I guess it's good he's held firm but he should've just said he's our player and we're working towards integrating him.

I imagine he cares that they turn up when selected, demonstrate they want it during camps. Does not care if they answer media questions about their national team options honestly.

Kind of refreshing. They'll be asked and give an answer but the more serious stuff is between him and the player out of the media's eye.

Nice rewriting of history. Irankunda and Segecic both threatened to go to other nations. He has no problems with picking them. Triantis had only ever wanted to play for Australia and said as much.
Yet it was Triantis that disappeared to Greece when he didn't get on the bench in his first squad selection. I think you are directing your ire the wrong way. The only person responsible for Triantis' decision is Triantis.

Just read an article in Aus’s tiny football media, where legendary keeper, Gianlugi Buffon, persuaded Circati to play for Aus!

Big thanks to him!

Well said!
