Sign Up Now!South Melbourne supporters are really being disrespectful to the stadium, actually quite obnoxious.I still remember in the nsl days when they were called the Breakers and played at an old dog track.
It was a dump, bugger all seats, people sitting on grass and hardly anyone use to turn up.South Melbourne supporters are really being disrespectful to the stadium, actually quite obnoxious.
Someone older than me may correct me, but I am not sure it is correct to say the Breakers played at an old dog track. It was later converted to a dog track after Newcastle United moved to Turton Rd.
Also clearly not a fan of the Jets because she mentions 2008, umm Jets v Victory grand final a decade later?Whinge from one of the local Newcastle MPs
You don't get to complain after Mark Shield's efforts on your behalf. When he retired he apologised to CCM about overruling the only AR that had a clear view of the Holland handball in the 2008 Grand Final.I was there that night, total failure of the VAR, refused to use TV footage, Victory stole it through incompetence
Yeah it was a few years after the Breakers folded that it was converted to the dog track. Could have been made into a nice little boutique facility but not good at all for transport and access.South Melbourne supporters are really being disrespectful to the stadium, actually quite obnoxious.

LOL it’s been nearly 20 years time to let it go.You don't get to complain after Mark Shield's efforts on your behalf. When he retired he apologised to CCM about overruling the only AR that had a clear view of the Holland handball in the 2008 Grand Final.
It was particularly galling since Holland had signed a contract with CCM before reneging and going to Newcastle. We had to lose 3 before winning our first one so I remember them all.LOL it’s been nearly 20 years time to let it go.
Won’t find me complaining about the Victory VAR game either, we could have played 300 minutes we never looked like scoring that night.
I agree. Hence the disappointment in selecting a similarly poor venue all these years later. It was a dump, bugger all seats, people sitting on grass and hardly anyone use to turn up.
Alright champ, apologies for taking you away from your gold class velevet covered seating experience in your non football venue and 'forcing' you to play in a football one!I agree. Hence the disappointment in selecting a similarly poor venue all these years later.
I appreciate that the FA were pretty limited in their options, and again I am not of the view that is should be held in Newcastle. So I am not really having a go at the FA, just saying that it is a poor stadium / outcome.
You do mean a converted Aussie rules ground.Alright champ, apologies for taking you away from your gold class velevet covered seating experience in your non football venue and 'forcing' you to play in a football one!
There are options though.. dont come!
Good try.... hasnt been an eggball there since 1981...You do mean a converted Aussie rules ground.
My point stands as it was the historical home of the bloods before the moved to Sydney, that my friend , is a fact.Good try.... hasnt been an eggball there since 1981...
You are right about the new stadium built over the old vfl ground,My point stands as it was the historical home of the bloods before the moved to Sydney, that my friend , is a fact.
Last Aussie rules game was 1993, BTW.
What is interesting is that nearly all South Melbourne fans lament that our ground was re-purposed to accommodate athletics, but we often forget that the outer side now has undercover seating. Of course, it is never used during NPL (except the odd game), so us fans don’t benefitAlso agreed. Melbourne has world class flagship venues, but not much else. That’s how it is almost everywhere in Australia tbh, Sydney is the odd one out in this regard, lucky to have the sheer number of venues and stadiums of all shapes and sizes it does.
Its a much better facility now. I think its a new dawn thing to hate on athletics tracks. If you were arguing from the perspective of behind the goals that would be different, the reality is Lakeside doesnt have a bad seat in the house and the 2 grandstands are excellent for viewing, all with seats. I see a lot of hypocrisy because many of the haters packed out OP and then Marvel stadium when the A league started and those venues were/are much further from the action. What is interesting is that nearly all South Melbourne fans lament that our ground was re-purposed to accommodate athletics, but we often forget that the outer side now has undercover seating.
