2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

The same ones who would cry foul just as loudly claiming disadvantage if played interstate! You cant win, thats an ingrained trait on that end!
Ground is perfect for the size of crowd these teams would get at the best of times and close for any interstate travelling fans not to need to get out of the city etc it wouldve made no sense to do it anywhere else here in Vic.
100m Sprint to determine the winner? 😆

Jokes aside, any reason why it couldn’t be at Olympic Village? Hopefully sells out so we can see what a full Lakeside looks like.

Neutral venue and the best one outside the major AL stadiums for aesthetics, comfort, experience etc... great venue for football.. even aleague teams have wanted to use it! Whether it fills or not with these teams is on them and whatver neutrals like myself will go!

OV has very limited seating.

Heidelberg has already won a grand final at lakeside, could win another next weekend, Preston have also won 2 at lakeside. We are happy to hand it over for big occasions.
You don’t have much of a choice, as it isn’t yours to begin with. You are only a tenant, like 99.99% of Australian sporting clubs.

Aesthetics is not a strong point of that ground, looked terrible against Auckland.

We are not phased either way, our venue has hosted finals for the last 40 years.

Thats going to be a massive week for Lakeside, Heidelberg v Jets then South v Olympic.

So, what will you consider a pass mark for the match against Olympic, 9,000 ?

Have you been? Every person i speak to says its much better when you're there.

Heidelberg has a run down facility, only 1,000 seats, too many obstructed views and good luck if you need a toilet if 8-10k there.

Lakeside covers all bases.

I know it’s all hypothetical etc and obviously the best case would have been for it to remain rectangular. But whilst it’s good for segregation, imo it would have looked better if they’d just kept the 1 main grandstand and had terracing on the eastern side Ala middle park. That stand is shut 99% of the time and it makes it feel less compact/more empty. Also I know athletics vic usually open it

I think its good to have a facility though that has 6-7k seats. Its a massive difference to the 1k odd that the likes of heidelberg, preston, oakleigh etc have. Every person that attends next weeks npl grand final at lakeside is guaranteed a seat. After attending a whole bunch of heidelberg games recently and also the home of the matildas i've probably taken lakesides comforts for granted.

Yea I get it, there’s obviously pros and cons.

Pretty crazy that in a city of 5+ million lakeside is the next best thing after aami park, when Sydney has Probably 10-+ venues to chose from. Obviously I know there’s reasons for it, and Sydney wouldn’t have the array of venues it does if not for the polycentric structure of urban area and the fact that the nrl also use many of the venues but still shows the underinvestment in soccer

Knights Stadium in Sunshine has heaps of seats, but still not as much as Lakeside. And nowhere near any mass transit options

Yea I’ve been. Great venue as a clubs home ground, but not the sort of place you’d be hosting a national final. Lakeside is objectively a superior facility notwithstanding the running track. Im saying its quite a big gap between aami park and lakeside, and there’s nothing really in between

Agree. But I might add there is a significant gap between Lakeside and other stadiums

Also agreed. Melbourne has world class flagship venues, but not much else. That’s how it is almost everywhere in Australia tbh, Sydney is the odd one out in this regard, lucky to have the sheer number of venues and stadiums of all shapes and sizes it does.

Jets supporters are really being disrespectful to the stadium, actually quite obnoxious. Pure delusion thinking they would get 25k when the Victory the biggest club in the land only got 14k last year.

I still remember in the nsl days when they were called the Breakers and played at an old dog track.

Even as a Jets fan I was keen to have the GF hosted by Heidelberg, and appreciating AAMI park is out of action, but the choice of stadium is pretty awful.

As per my posts above, there ain’t much else to choose from
