NPL 2025

You would know this.

Are clubs allowed to advertise on the streams? If not, why not. All I see is them advertising for more participants, which is sus.
No mate, there are sponsor adds all over the streams ... at every half time, very goal or stat... its a revenue earner for sure....

Like I posted as an example in the other thread:

The 4-2 over Sydney Olympic from memory was a Wednesday night so probably kept a few thousand away.

We had some seriously good crowds that season considering where we were heading, 12k against perth, 10k against parra, 8.3k against adelaide united, 7.5k against Brisbane.

Incredibly our home fixture against melb knights was our 4th biggest, so our biggest crowds came against interstate teams. All bar 2 of our home games were over 5,000.

The 2 bigger Cro clubs in NPL2 while the 2 smaller ones in NPL1... In saying that, was at the game on Sunday and would say the crowd was at least 75% barracking for St Albans.
I wonder if its 75% the other way when they play at Knights. No doubt St Albans has hurt the knights thats pretty obvious. You can be sister clubs all you like but at the end of the day they've dilluted the knights fan base and with relegation looming they may shed even more.

It actually makes me angry knowing we were still pulling crowds, and the bastards would not allow us in to the competition.

I am a bit late to this view, because at that time I was in the middle of my 15 year 'sabbatical' from my team. Australian Soccer was not even on my radar.

Yet, I do not recall anyone else feeling angered by this at the time.

The anger came a little later, when the clubs and supporters actually realised they were totally swindled... initially all were under the impression they could bid and had a good chance of being a part of the new setup (see even grk media interviews at the time)... Knights admitted as much also regarding their nitial agremeent with the changes proposed. Little did any of them know (they shouldve though!) that it would turnout way it did.. worst part was the Perth decision bc the reality of it really came as a kick in the guts to the rest... almost purposefully so as to say look we dont exclude you we included the old....
It was when most of us chose pathways, some to stay loyal others to embrace for lack of a better term the shinny new offering and many to disengage fully... from those that stayed engaged many went to topical football as the vic premier league at the time was a real cluster f#$@ of a comp...

Truth is the brainwashing campaign did its job (masterfully) via the constant campaign of negativity to justify the money grab that came after by people like Lowy, Lord so on and so forth! Unless those out there believe that any of them didnt position themselves for the opportunity to make money off the sport and did it all for the good of the game??

I agree South Melbourne stood out amongst traditional clubs re average crowd numbers. Potentially worth noting that in the final year of the nsl Sydney had 5 clubs (7 in nsw) and Melbourne/Victoria had 2, and South Melbourne had essentially cemented themselves as the de facto premier Melbourne/Victorian club at that point. And that’s not an argument against south, that’s to say they were getting things right

As much as you'd think the Croat teams have some "United" front in Melbourne, it's far from the case.

They dont like each other much and all want to out-do each other.

Back in the NSL era, a lot of the Melbourne Knights board / fans went to St Albans Dinamo cause of a massive falling out.

I dont know the ins and outs. When Knights made the Australia cup semi final 2 years ago both social media accounts of dinamo and dandy city urged everyone to get behind Knights. The Knights have also allowed Dinamo to use its venue when needed including this year.

I am actually fascinated by the respective names of the two smaller clubs. Dinamo and Hajduk. I assume to do with the mother club in Croatia.

How does that all work?

I can imagine if Melbourne had some clubs called Oakleigh Olympiakos, Prahran PAOK, etc. Would be intriguing. But I am glad we have not gone down this path.

Altona East PAOK
Aris Springvale
Waverley AEK
Olympiakos East Kew

all beg to differ :)

Fair enough. They are minor clubs (compared to St Albans and Dandenong City, as well the higher placed Greek clubs in NPL) in the scheme of things. But interesting how these things all develop. We need Paul Mavroudis to do another thesis. Hehe
