NPL 2025

luv it thanks for the intel and so enjoy the flavour our Clubs bring to the atmosphere.
After the years the Palace looking bit ordinary/run down so glad its its getting freshed up and better for the importance and resurgence ahead.
Just need APIA/Lambert park rebuilt but I think there is still heaps of red tape getting that happenning in the meantime I fear the back up will be the revamped Leichardt Oval after 26/27 season.
Leichardt is the right fit for Cup games but winter I see it will be shared with NRL's Tigers that is annoying having the ground hacked up.

still a few rounds to play put AND their catch up match against Oakleigh ... who knows what shenanigans those gypsies will cook up.

Knights may pull a Hail Mary out of the arse just yet.... would the come back of the ages if they did though... Port and Victory are definitely cooked.
Honestly the Knights are so bad that it would actually look fixed if Oakleigh lost to them. They showed no fight yesterday and literally could have copped 10 goals in the 2nd half alone, the 3-4 players they signed are mostly rubbish.

For all the banter re Marconi crowds, seems to me like on our day we’ve pulled some better crowds than the likes of the mighty Sydney united and south Melbourne Hellas (baring the Preston game) this season ;)

I concede Marconi has never had the best travelling support, but the big bad SUS were awfully quiet yesterday

dont get ahead of yourself. Half the crowd yesterday was croats lol.

just like when you played rockdale, half the crowd was macos.

Loving the new pizza bar. Great day out at the Palace with the fam for pizza, wine, ice cream & football.

Tsenkis reminds me of Popovic in his approach to games. His son is a handy player as well.
This is it, you don’t need a world class stadium or crowd numbers rivalling the afl or even a league for that matter, you just need to offer an enjoyable match day experience
who draws a bigger crowd these days, Marconi or APIA?
Marconi in my experience, they’re the bigger club. But that’s also a factor, in an era where traditional clubs already draw less interest than on the heyday, the Italian community is split again between 2 clubs.

For what’s it’s worth I’ve been to many Sydney united games over the years as an interested neutral or otherwise so I’m well aware of what your support is like. Have said it once and will say it again, that Australia cup final display was one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever experienced in Australia having been to many a league derbies too. Was genuinely like stepping into a stadium in the Balkans

yep about right re Marconi, its resurged of late though Glenardo to me for 3/5yrs ago it wasn't doing that well whereas APIA 17/18/19 were punching ahead of youse, league/Waratah Cup incl 23/runners up here and there.
Yes big issue is that we're split but its healthy enough thankfully.
In saying we don't need all this and that at a ground today I do think Lambert is suffering very much having the same problem grandstand wise forever........its home but its that old the use by date is choking it.
We're chalk and cheese facility wise but in a far better area of Sydney :)
I luv going there but christ, I was on the same seats back in the 80's haha but damn I luv being there its casa.
Luv to have what Edensor is that'll do, yer just build that very steep grandstand street side at Lambert.
I'm sure we are going to play alot of games at the revamped Leichardt post 25/26 upon completion but yer its not Lambert then again the younger ones it won't matter.

Any news on that planned upgrade of lambert from a few years back? they wanted to build a new grand stand. I realise it’s a nightmare to get through council on an inner city street

agreed, Marconi have always been the bigger club, always enjoyed going there from the NSL days, just not in recent years, due to the on field performances lol.

APIA dominated in that 2017-2019 period and always tend to pick up some silverware.
they beat us in the 2019 GF.

Agreed. Yea APIA have had on field success, but most of their history they’ve been a strong club at state level, pre and post nsl. Marconi have spent much more time on the national level. Don’t forget APIA weren’t founding members of the nsl and dropped out in the early 90s. It’s easy to lump “ex nsl” clubs together, but there’s a difference between clubs which were stalwarts of the national league and were there till the end.. and clubs who played in it at some point.

None of this is a dig at APIA, they’re a great historic club, they’re just in a smaller scale imo. Much more like a Brunswick juventus (if they hadn’t gone to shit)

huh, few years back, been going on for like 10 off the top of my head.
Bogged down in red tape and the chase of funding not I think that was harder getting through council is I expect.

From 2025, the bottom three teams from each of NPL Men, VPL1 Men and VPL2 Men will be automatically relegated to the league below at season’s end.

Coming the other way, the top two teams from each of VPL1 Men and VPL2 Men will be automatically promoted, while a two-week playoff system involving teams placed 3rd to 6th will determine the third promotion slot (3 v 6 and 4 v 5; then winner v winner).

The winners of State League 1 North-West and South-East will be automatically promoted to VPL2 Men, while the runners-up in each of those divisions will play off for the third promotion slot.

This is from FV but as we know could be changed by tomorrow
Whilst we're talking pro/rel spots and about to enter the final rounds, can we check these tables in the link below and make sure all the spots are correct? Anything missing? Cheers.

ACT will need a refresh:
  • Technically no one being relegated from NPL to CPL
  • CPL will have - to my understanding - the top 3 being promoted to NPL (I believe it's actually the 3 highest that meet a criteria, but that isn't 100% clear yet)
  • All other clubs that aren't Yoogali and Wagga City will be relegated to CLO1
  • No promotion eligibility from CLO1 to CPL

No disrespect to APIA but from a Melbourne perspective Marconi was the BIG Sydney team... and always drew a crowd down here... Sydney Croatia and Olympic a very close second but Marconi was always the one clash that stood out....
