Japan likely to be going for a full coaching overhaul after Leah Blayney was also given her marching orders a couple of days after Nils Nielsen got the sack.

Not sure whether Nils Nielsen was given the sack or resigned but he and Leah Blayney both fell out of contract at the conclusion of the Women's Asian Cup and subsequently left the Japanese federation.

I get they won't ever return to Iran but this blitz citizenship doesn't sit with me. Dedicated service from the government while there are many stories of other people's visa cases having stuff ups and lack of attention. I guess they were inevitably going to become citizens but a note in their file that they won't be deported would suffice for what the true meaning of asylum is.

I’m kinda with you on this. They deserve to stay but it seems so quick. Citizenship usually takes four years in Australia, they haven’t even been here for one. Surely they could as you said just have been assured they wouldn’t be deported provided they didn’t commit any serious crimes.

I think this means they won’t play for Iran anymore though. Under FIFA rules they’re permanently cap-tied to Iran but I doubt the regime would allow the FFIRI to include them in further teams going forward, unfortunately. For a similar reason, Nikita Haikin (who has quadruple citizenship) won’t ever be called up for Russia because he’s spoken out against Vladimir Putin, which is why he tried to switch his allegiance to Norway before the World Cup.
