True their contracts were not renewed, which is quite surprising considering the Asia Cup win. The Japanese FA said there was a perceived “lack of passion”, a “lax coaching style”, and “cultural differences”. “Officials felt his approach didn’t meet the high standards necessary to win major, long-term, international tournaments” which may be a translation error. They possibly meant “standards necessary to win major international tournaments in the long term”?
