Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

The coach explicitly said he would pick Donnarumma + the U21 team. Volpato is 22. Every player selected bar Donnarumma is born in 2004 or later. Volpato was born in 2003.
Odd to select age based asthe rebuild begins now but it's the end of a long season and qualifying ordeal. Nicolo Tresoldi wasn't selected by Germany so they'll have to get in touch with him.

To think we've got Borrello still there when we could've just gifted a spot to Arena at this rate.
He, Bennie and even Segecic should all be called up to our Asian Cup squad. Segecic accepted call ups only a few months ago and would likely be shattered not to have been selected for Croatia. We should have someone talking to him all the time.

We don't have the weight of talent to be complacent with these types of talents.

Arena in particular could be a real sliding doors moment for our national side. We have a lot of good young players coming through and we look like having a very exciting squad by 2030. Arena is that one possible world class talent that could lift us into a different category altogether. We should be doing everything we can to convince him his international future is with the Socceroos.

Mate fairly sure Seg is tied to Croatia with no rules available for any return to representing Australia.

My mistake.

I didn't realise he'd been capped, or does that not matter?

Edit: Just looked it up. He's not lost to us until Croatia caps him, but he would need to apply to FIFA to formally switch his allegiance back. Given he's just done this in the other direction, this seems unlikely. Such a shame!

And he's devoid of criticism with the group think media. Maybe scathing attacks will come post WC if we totally bomb.
There is no football media if little out there and there will never critique Popa because they are scared to ask the hard questions, in real football countries he would get smashed like Tuchel would with England especially with the exclusions of Palmer and Foden their media are not getting away with Tuchel's selections.

100% this
Surely he gets cut but if not we've thrown away a spot and that's where all the other sagas become ridiculous. Triantis could be ahead of Okon for now as the latter isn't going to jump ship.

We should be having interviews with those we lost in Florida saying they're all raring to go and they're nearing their peak and we have so many options to keep bringing into games.

The rules must've changed again, as I am certain Rhys Williams was a Wales U21 international before he got his Socceroo call-up.
The rules changed in September 2020 but I think it's always been the case that if you jump ship to a different association then are capped for that association at any level you're locked in and can't reverse your decision.

I think it’s because he didn’t play for the Socceroos before that. He first played for Wales then switched to the Socceroos. Though in saying that Dylan Scicluna played for Australia, then Malta, then switched back to Australia, so I don’t know.

I was right, Williams was capped 10 times for the Wales U21's from 2007-09 before he switched to us.

If Scicluna has switched back to us then surely Segecic should be able to come back should Popa get the arse then.
