Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

since he is over 21 it doesnt lock him in permanently but does for 3 years

Similar for sega if we played him

On my reading of the eligibility rules, a player is required to have played an official competition game at “A” international level (for example, a world cup qualifier) before the three year prohibition on switching associations after any "A" internationals (including friendlies) applies.

So, for example, if a player played an Asian cup qualifier at age 20 in 2021, and then a friendly in 2025, they couldn't switch association until 2028. However, if they hadn't played the Asian cup qualifier, they could switch whenever.

Correct

While I think Poppa deserves criticism for his handling of Segacic and Triantis, I wonder if we are seeing a course correction.

We forget that Poppa has bosses, who will outlast his reign, and will want to see the best players playing for the national team. Has pressure come from above?

Evidence of this is the fact that they still reached out to Volpato, after saying he wouldn’t sell the shirt and have been in strong contact with Arena to convince him to play for Oz. Playing Robertson. Calling up Suso. Plus calling into camp Bennie and Leonard, after Scotland talk surfaced. Also the Sciluna switch no doubt had some conversations happening in the background. Okon seems to be out and about talking to dual internationals.

We seem to be moving in a more proactive direction. If they had convinced Arena and Volpato, we would be probably singing their praises right now. The issue in the last six months was not us ignoring them, it was that the two have not agreed to play for us yet.

This did not age well

Cause we could now lose Alex Robertson and haven’t gotten neither Antonio Arena nor Cristian Volpato.
I wasn’t suggesting that we were successful in getting arena and Volpato just that Poppa had course corrected in approaching them to play for Oz when he said he wouldn’t do that. Plus isn’t Robertson tied to us for three years because Poppa played him in the recent friendly?

The post did mention Volpato & Arena & that we have reached out to them & Volpato has decided not too while Arena is yet to decide & young.

Now I think the removal of Robertson from squad NOT what I wanted, he was in correspondence with Poppa & he felt he either didn't fit his plans or not performed enough.

Hopefully we get someone new in post World Cup who can see Robertson's talent.
I'm already, if I wasn't already, for sacking Popovic the moment we are eliminated. Yes, he has his system and it can be admired that he has his plan and way but this isn't building the greatest of 'teams' who are still dysfunctional and look lost while also ignoring our technically best who can alleviate some of the issues we're having.

he might be knocking the door down by then
Risk and reward of a new coach, especially a foreigner who may look at some incumbents and send them parking. To be fair Popovic has picked blokes I like Miller aside. Miller can be a squaddie but really shouldn't be near our squad post Popovic. I was worried Popovic wouldn't pick McGree.

The fact that Popovic is so rigid in his football that the likes of Robertson can't even make a 26 man squad is in my humble opinion a joke and a perfect example of Popa's shortcoming as a football coach.

I can't see ANY of our current up and coming midfielders ever be Mooyesque...but Robbo I genuinely can and I just hope Tony doesn't screw Australian football in the future even further than he has done.

And he's devoid of criticism with the group think media. Maybe scathing attacks will come post WC if we totally bomb.
