Good luck to him. Popa didn't see it and chose to not select him and now he's a train on for Croatia at a World Cup. His decision has been vindicated.

The reality is he could have been already in camp for us after a good end to the season looking to prove his spot on the plane!

Then again maybe he doesn't' score those late season goals if he never jumped ship...who the fuck knows.

Even still it shows the problems with the current selection policy and how Football Australia are now ruing the loss of yet another promising dual international youth prospect heading into the culmination of a major tournament cycle.

Adrian Segecic would definitely be either a train-on player or a differential option to make the 26-player list for the Socceroos in terms of where he'd be at taking into account the difference in quality between Australia and Croatia and his form throughout the season, but if he were to make the final playing list he'll probably only be a bench player at most given our depth in attacking midfield and the forward line.

Maybe under Popovic he would have been outside the 26, but for any other Socceroos manager he would be in the 26 without doubt based on what he achieved this season topping the scoring charts for a Championship team in his debut season at age 21. I disagree that we have depth in our forward line. Aside from Toure who picks himself, I think all of our other forward options (not talking about attacking midfielders) are very mediocre and uninspiring.
 
Fair enough. It's still pretty stark how much Croatia relies on its diaspora (not quite Curacao levels but very significant). I suppose when you have a small and declining population you need to pull whatever tricks are available.

They’re an aging team but there’s definitely locals they should be looking at rather than stealing the diaspora of other countries. Our player pool shrinks every time one of these guys refuses to play for us or switches because he wasn’t called up (“he” because women’s footballers hardly do this unless they’re obviously not good enough which is an interesting point).
 
Im glad the reaction here is more mature compared to Twitter and reddit they just want to blame the kid.

Not sure what kind of people that would go these apps are clearly are not capable of thinking rationally lol.

Anyone from a mile away can see they dropped the ball on capping the kid, but fair play to Croatia they clearly take their duel nationals more seriously than us and this is a country that has made a World Cup final and semi final in the last two World Cup as well…
 
And the biggest factor which nobody seems to be mentioning is that the kid made this decision himself. He decided to represent Croatia not Australia. Enough with the hand-wringing, move on please!
