Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Can anyone explain why it occurs so late in the season?

Granted, it is not as bad for anyone participating in the NSD.
It's to align with Fifa and having only 2 transfer windows so FA aligns with aleague transfer windows which ends up being end of the NPL season

The starting XI for South Melbourne's NPL Victoria game against Avondale at Lakeside Stadium has been named. Dali Gorr Burchmore's brother makes his return from injury, whilst Antoine Van Riet starts between the sticks. As expected no first team players have been named in the playing list given the short turnaround from the OFC Pro League grand final.

South Melbourne lost 4-0 to Avondale in their NPL Victoria game which is the second straight week we've lost by the same scoreline after our loss to Caroline Springs George Cross last week, with the result meaning that we finish sixth on the ladder at the conclusion of matchday 14 but could well fall out of the top six next week if we continue to drop points.

That’s the end of the U23s team playing senior matches.

The OFC Pro League has been a big learning curve for the club. Both good and bad decisions were made. If we are a serious football club, then we need to do a full review, change our structures of having a group of core players that one focuses on NPL Victoria/Dockerty Cup, and the other group solely on OFC Pro League. That will help with continuity and minimise exposure during the first half of the season.

I’ll drop my thoughts an other time on how we can improve things. Hopefully the club can improve and strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season.

Definitely as part of improving and strengthening the playing list for the latter half of the NPL Victoria season as well as the Hahn Australia Cup competition proper and Australian Championship we also need to think about which players will be deemed surplus to requirements and subsequently culled from the Hellas organisation altogether.

Che is NOT anyone's brother, kid deserves alittle more respect than that description.. Played his guts out last night.

The injury doesn't look good for Eliopoulos and we may well have to go without him for a large chunk of the latter half of our season.
Hes OK, hammie NOT knee... on crutches but putting a bit of weight on it.. He's a tough Kalamatiano. he'll be right.

Seems like they’re stronger than most of the a league npl teams, normally they struggle to finish in the top of the table in npl let alone win continental titles. Maybe less restrictions on what sorts of players they can field re age etc?
Seperate squad altogether from their "domestic" npl team.. all their players were out of contract as of yesterday...

When you factor in the amount of football these players have played and the psychological blow of losing this final, its going to be hard to come back from this i think.

Inglese/Jankovic is not a top tier central pairing and Swibel has simply not fired a shot whenever we've played a half decent team.

The morale is going to further drop after what Avondsle do to our kids tomorrow night. Then we dont even know if the club is considering giving these players an extended break.

Sadly we probably arent winning anything this year.
That couldnt be further from the truth. Spoke to ALL of the players on the way home yesterday and overwhelming message was of a fierce determination to achieve.. some of them were begging to play last night even though we didn't, land until after 6pm. Havent seen their wives, girlfriends and families for 3 weeks and they wanted to go to Lakeside to play... THATS what Hellas is.

Every single player on that plane came up to us and thanked us all for making the trip out and the lads were absolutely shattered. It hurt us, but we've been down before... We fight to the end, and I saw hunger in the squad NOT defeat last night.

. No morale drop no matter how you want to paint it.

They have 4-5 that would be a good fit but they're young and will almost certainly be part of the senior setup. I dont think any Auckland players are gettable.

The 2 South Island lads would be gettable, and they defended way better in the semi than what we did today.
The complete Auckland OFC squad is gettable.... theya re all out of contract as of yesterday.
