Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

it goes back to league placing since Newcastle Jets did the double every other country in the Asian Football Confederation has done this as well i spoke to Iranian based AFC journalist Erfan Hoseiny confirmed during March international break saying cup runner up is not eligible for AFC club competition only the cup winners.
interesting source! I guess we all find out soon

The updated AFC Club Competition Regulations are out.

They're increasing the max spots per country from four to six! Unlikely to ever affect us. But if we earn a fourth spot, we'll need to have at least 12 Australian clubs in the A-League to actually receive that fourth spot.

Turns out i was right.

Rule 6 club licensing criteria confirms only within top domestic league and has officially sealed Melbourne Victory's place back in Asia for next season in ACL Two in the updated AFC Club competition regulations as of Thursday April 30th (yesterday) in accordance with the AFC Club Licensing Regulations.

Its that rule and rule 7.4 in the sporting criteria part which is the top six (50%) Australian based clubs in the final league rankings in the top division league that are eligible to compete in AFC club competitions for 2026/27 season.

our top six ranked Australian clubs were by ranking,
Newcastle Jets
Adelaide United
Melbourne Victory
Sydney FC
Melbourne City
Macarthur

between 8-9 countries so far have used final top division domestic league placings for AFC slots for next season after where the cup winner had already qualified thru domestic league performance,
South Korea - due to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors did domestic double
Malaysia - due to Johor Darul Tazim did domestic double
Singapore - due to Lion City Sailors did domestic double
Cambodia - due to PKR Svay Rieng did domestic double
Thailand - if Buriram United do the domestic double
Uzbekistan - FC Pakhtakor Tashkent who finished 2nd
Saudi Arabia - Al Hilal Riyadh top three finish
Iran - went to league placing at the time of war started (league won't finish by May 31st deadline)
Qatar - both cup finalists already qualified thru league placing

The Path Ahead

While we celebrate this milestone, we acknowledge the “strict assessment process” currently underway. The club is working tirelessly across all departments to ensure full compliance regarding:

Licensing & Governance: Meeting all AFC regulatory standards.

Infrastructure: Securing a suitable venue that meets international match requirements.

Operational Excellence: Scaling our logistics to meet the demands of continental competition.

This journey belongs to all of us. We would like to extend our gratitude to Football Australia, Football Victoria, and the City of Banyule for their ongoing support. We also congratulate the Newcastle Jets on their recent success, which helped pave this specific path for our qualification.

Heidelberg United stands ready to rise to the challenge.

"earned the right" by losing a match? GTFOH peasants.
thank you @Monoethnic Social Club for calling it out.

CONFIRMED: I've just got off speaking to a spokesperson within Uzbekistan Football Association (Abror Oripov) late last night.

According to the standard AFC allocation principle, if the cup winner has already secured qualification through league performance, the vacated slot is typically redistributed to the next highest-placed eligible club in the domestic league standings, subject to licensing and federation regulations.

To be fair its pretty much the "standard"around the world.

I decided to cheekily state on a Facebook page that Heidelberg will probably find it easiest to play at Lakeside.

A Heidelberg supporter responded to say that will NOT happen, and that Heidelberg are looking to play at AAMI.

That stadium hire would be pretty expensive even assuming they'd would only hire one side.
