Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

Just get AAMI to sponsor a patch of grass next to it and call it “AAMI Park”. I doubt the AFC would notice given they don’t notice corruption lol.
AFC are a bunch of psycho's, AAMI isn't an AFC sponsor so they'll blank that shit out everywhere. They'd make them take it off the front of the stadium if they could.

You know what I mean. And I did put it in quotation marks.

Anyway, why is Heidelberg going for it if they cannot qualify?
Under the criteria set out, i believe they have qualified. They only need a ground up to the standards set, which should not be hard to find in the Sporting capital of the planet. I sense a bit of jealousy from SMFC supporters over this.

Some of my fellow fans for sure.

I wish them all the best, and I will try to attend as I do have a soft spot for them (as do MOST Hellas fans).... but I do not take any shit from their fans. I ESPECIALLY dislike anyone of their fans telling us that my club has forgotten it's roots.

My answer to them is "Well, how come YOU do not go back to your roots and speak Slavic?!!" I think that got me banned from the Heidelberg Facebook page, even though it was not written on one of their posts. Hehe!

You may not be aware of this, but the club was formed by people from Florina, which is next to the border of North Macedonia.

This is an area where the history and name of Macedonia is contested. And most of the folk, in spite of espousing Greek ethnic feelings, all speak (or spoke) the local Slavic idiom.

Don't know about jealousy... we couldn't cope with ANOTHER league at the moment - we are currently 4-1 up against Bula btw...

Id rather we qualified by winning the Australia Cup though, not as some sort of poverty second place FFA charity thing.. good luck to them if they do make it in, better for the rest of the NPL they arent going to get an extended squad, they cant afford it, and their NPL season will suffer...

That sporting capital stuff of the world is another 'contested' claim.

On the one hand, yes we do have massive support for sport, but the fact that it so skewered to one sport, sort of dilutes that claim.

A true 'sporting capital' would include multiple sports, I would think.

No, not at all. Well at least in my small circle.

My little coterie of friends are a mixed bag of Hellas and Alexandros supporters.

We wish each other all the best.

One fan has even been given the nickname of Splinters, because she supports BOTH clubs! Haha

They saying "show me who your friends are..." springs to mind.

I dont really speak to anyone north of Mt Olympus...

And here you nearly had me thinking these are all Aussie clubs!!!!
Don't you consider people of Greek or North Macedonian ancestry as Australian?

Its such a shame these attitudes still exist... hope the hate dies with you.

Would be good if Alexander got in imo. Sets a precedent that it is hypothetically possible for traditional clubs to qualify for Asia. It’s always been a theoretical possibility that a club locked out of the a league could bypass it and qualify via the cup but remained just that, theoretical. Also should give the cup even more weight as a comp

What is the precedent? That you dont even have to win the GF to go to Asia? What about making the Semi final, do they get automatic entry to?

If Heidelberg does get to go to Asia the ones that would feel the most hard done by and justifiably so would be Sydney Croatia. Why didnt the FA apply for them to go?

That non a league clubs can in fact qualify, there was always some uncertainty whether they’d be eligible even if they won
