Perry Park - Olympic Application

Southport Sharks, a local VFL team, wants government funding for a new $500 million dollar stadium and Western United style precinct.

How's Perry Park coming along? 😂😭

Where’s the money coming from?

I will believe this when I see it under construction.

Write to your local MP. While not in her electorate the Minister for Sports seat is very close.

Bit of a stretch to call Dolphin Stadium and especially Sunshine Coast Stadiums Tier 3. Maybe Dolphin just hits the 10k seats mark, but Sunny Coast has one grandstand that is about one third of the length of the field, and the rest is grassy slopes.

Yep. Good post!

I got a similar response. I still think they should be aiming for a 20,000 stadium that is upgradable with 20,000 temp stands for any World cup bid.

Perry Park looks tiny. I'm not sure theres room for much more than the one stand they have unless they build over the training ground next to it. Then it wouldn't be a useful base to train at.

I wrote to the Federal member for Brisbane - while supportive she also said to contact

If you are going to contact the Deputy Premier, it's a good idea to keep the tone polite and focus on why Perry would be a positive for the city and football.

This may sound obvious, but you'd be surprised at some of the things I've read when it comes to contacting MP's and politicians.

Out of interest, what did you say to Ms Jarrett and what was her response? :)

I originally started with a vision for a South Pacific World Cup. I discussed it with my Federal MP who also contacted the Federal Minister of Sport. He then suggest a number of Federal Members to contact (specifically around stadiums - hence Perry Park) as well as my local State MP.) A couple of them have pointed me to different people such as State Sport Ministers.

My main concern at this stage was that any stadium renovations did not put at risk a future bid. e.g. Stadium Australia as the only 80,000+ FIFA compliant stadium should not be cut to 70,000 for a roof. If a roof is to be on it has to be at the current capacity.

Ms Jarrett was very polite and obviously understood my point and if any development is done will push for foundations that will support expansion. However, as an Federal MP she cannot determine Qld Olympic delivery - hence pointing me to the Deputy Premier.
