Interesting that Ecuador have something in common with us. They also had 1W, 1D and 1L finishing on 4 pts with 2 goals for and 2 goals against. Exactly the same. Only difference is that they finished 3rd in their group. Funny how things work.

Woulda coulda shoulda. Whatever fans think they lost the group because the coaching staff and players thought that they would win simply because they are better and failed to do their homework on the opposition and had no plans on how to break down their defences. It's all a matter of respect for your opposition, and the Turks showed none to us and Paraguay.

Here’s something interesting (well to me anyway).
Turkey entered the WC as holders of the Unofficial World Championship. We won this from them in round 1 only to lose it to the USA. But Turkey subsequently won it back again with their last minute winner.
So for perhaps the first time, the WC and UWC titles will not be unified, despite both title holders qualifying for the World Cup finals.
