Women's Asian Cup general discussion thread

I don't think anything will change with FIFA unfortunately as the Middle Eastern nations continue to have more power and influence over the round ball game, and even with calls for Iran to be sanctioned it's doubtful that anything will actually eventuate.
Just a quick reminder of what Gianni Infantino has done as FIFA President:
  • 2016: was investigated by the FIFA Ethics Committee for corruption and was mentioned in the Panama Papers
  • 2019: was given the Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin (an evil dictator) in 2019
  • 2022: denied that Qatar had slaves doing forced labour in the years leading up to the World Cup and claimed that the migrant workers were "given work and pay" and were "proud" to contribute
  • 2022: made a speech where he falsely claimed to understand how disabled people, LGBT people, migrants, women, etc feel despite hosting the World Cup in a country that hates LGBT people and degrades women
  • 2022: suggested that North Korea (a totalitarian dictatorship with zero freedom) could host the World Cup
  • 2024: gave the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia (a country that has an even worse human rights record than Qatar, where non-Muslims and women have unequal rights and being LGBT can be punished by death), and did so by giving the 2030 one to three different confederations so the only options were Asia and Oceania (Australia bid but we never had a chance when Saudi came in)
  • 2025: engraved his name in the Club World Cup trophy and let Donald Trump be part of Chelsea's trophy celebrations.
  • 2025: Created the FIFA Peace Prize and gave it to Donald Trump (despite him not deserving it hence why he didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize that was announced just before he got the FIFA Peace Prize)
  • 2026: began talks with Qatar to host the 2028 Women's Club World Cup, despite Qatar (again) putting LGBT people in jail, not having equal rights for women and having zero history of women's football (their national team is literally unranked because they haven't played since 2021)
  • 2026: called for Russia's suspension to be lifted despite Russia waging an illegal and genocidal war on Ukraine
And the worst part is people defend him. I'm a centrist conservative yet (depending on the person and criticism) I get called a "woke progressive" or a "racist asshole" for calling this shit out.

He doesn't give two fucks, shits or damns about women, LGBT people, minorities, democracy or human rights. He only cares about money and should be removed as President.

Infantino makes Blatter and Havelange look good. All three have made FIFA a byword for corruption and greed.Having said that there are good people in the organisation who have the interests of football at heart .

Getting excited for this.

Fotmob my main source hasn't updated fixtures so bit confused I think most games are on 8 pm with Perth matches being 9pm?

All three games are at 8:00pm AEDT. In Perth that would be 5:00pm and on the Gold Coast that would be 7:00pm.

Kyah Simon, we all love you, but I think you're probably done. Maybe one last dance in a friendly, but not for tournaments.

Jersey numbers for the Women's Asian Cup have now been confirmed, with the vast majority of the squad numbers 1 through 26 as expected, and Chloe Lincoln being given the number 12 jersey in the absence of Teagan Micah.

I guess that means Macca will be the number one as expected and Jada will be on the fringe once again. Hopefully Macca has another run of great form like at the 2023 World Cup (which would basically establish her as being a big game/tournament player).

Feels wrong having someone other than Charli with the number 22 (probably cause I have her jersey). Actually it feels wrong not having her in general. I’ve never thought to ask her if she picked 22 because Kyra is 23 and their besties lol. I know Kyra picked 32 for Arsenal because 23 was her Matildas number. No idea why Sam picked 20 or Ras picked 16 as opposed to striker numbers like 7 (which is Steph, a defender).

If she could cross or pass when she gets into the final third then maybe. Until then though.
She’s been played as a right winger for Chelsea before and it’s worked fine. I guess the reason we don’t do it for the Tillies is because we already have depth in the winger positions. Though Chelsea have wingers too and still did it, though they can afford to play a weaker team and experiment most games as their B team would beat most WSL teams.

Here's how I would line up:

—————— SK ——————
——— CF — AS — HR ———
———— CW — KCC ————
— CN — SC — CH — EC —
————— MA/JW —————

Obviously using initials to make it neat but you get the idea. Mary is the big question as she’s only just started getting fit again. I would say she takes Amy's spot when fit. Goalies can rotate but if Teags was fit she would walk in.

She's a fantastic defender that bombs down the wing like a winger anyway. It's just 9 times out of 10 she lacks a quality cross or threaded pass into the box or even a shot although she did score a screamer the other day so fingers crossed someone's pulled her aside to help her.
