Update: WU confirmed place for 2026 and all teams start training this Thursday. A-league team was mentioned to start July 1st but I believe there is still court dates in place
What a waste. Should’ve just relocated them to Geelong or TAS instead…

What a load of crap if this goes ahead. Maybe the APL need that extra team in the comp for the next TV deal next year?

They need an extra 2 teams for more broadcast deal “content”. One team just means a bye each round.

Would be great to see them back, under proper ownership and with the correct governance.

First thing i would do is remove themselves from the stadium commitment and any timeframe around it. Commit to building a permanent stand similar to what Oakleigh and Heidelberg have in the NPL, but all seated) on the eastern side of the pitch at ironbark fields before the beginning of the 2026-2027 season and reassess what the actual stadium looks like by the end of the decade.

A permanent structure on the eastern side in conjunction to what they have now will actually be one of the best smaller stadiums in the country. 6k capacity should be the aim, with an aim of 4.5k to 5k crowds for all matches. Play derbies there too, its the only way to grow the game in the west.

Treat this as a complete reset, and get new people in.
