I can see the MLS wanting to keep their teams strong rather than just trying to make a quick dollar. I base that on nothing other than the players they try to attract to make their teams and league stronger and more marketable on the whole.

| Brisbane Roar can today announce the departure of Ninja A-League Women Head Coach Alex Smith, who takes up an overseas opportunity following a strong 2025/26 campaign. Smith led his side through an exciting finals series, reaching the Semi Finals after a standout season that marked the first time the club had played finals football in five years. After joining the club in 2023, Smith took the A-League Women's program to new heights, headlined by a clear focus on developing young Queensland talent and further cementing the local football pathway. The likes of Daisy Brown, Grace Kuilamu, Zara Kruger and Isabela Hoyos, to name a few, all progressed under his guidance. Along with his on-field success, last season also saw Smith break the record for most appearances as Ninja A-League Women Head Coach in Brisbane Roar history. Zac Anderson, Chief Operating Officer, said the club was proud of what Smith had help rebuild. "Alex leaves the Women's program in a far stronger position than he found it. I would suggest that coaching in the aleague men's or women's can be seen as a development league just as much as it is for players. Or to refine it better, it is an opportunity to establish a name and the better players and coaches will always be looking to a step up - or at least to be paid better elsewhere.

Shaw became the third youngest player to represent the club at A-League level after making his debut at 16 years, 9 months and 3 days against Melbourne City in Round 20 of the 25/26 campaign, going on to make seven appearances across the season. Shaw chose to stay with Brisbane Roar after interest from several A-League teams, showcasing his commitment to his hometown club. The midfielder has represented Australia at U17 level and joined Brisbane Roar's B side in 2025 following a Championship-winning NPL Queensland season with Lions FC, where he was crowned the competition's Young Player of the Season 2025.
