Back in May Burke-Gilroy was one of 8 players whose contracts were not renewed on expiry, and there were another 3 players (including Salas) whose loans were up.

11 players gone in one moment - many of them OK to go in my books, but some were confusing. Maybe the better ones just wanted a change of scenery or work environment.

That sucks big time.

Might be our gain, but it stinks when clubs 'under management' in some form get stripped. A stronger league helps us all. Cannibalism doesn't improve the overall product.

That said, we have been on the skinny end of good players getting offered better contracts at the end of a season since our 'great' era became less great, so we know how painful that is.

For the most part, the 11 who left did not get time or just didn't click with us under Valkanis.

Nothing to say that any or all of them would not do better if they came back against us as opponents next season...

However, Salas would have been good to have been able to keep, but I guess he would have cost a pretty penny.

Emin Durakovic is headed to Brisbane Roar after being delisted by Melbourne City and will be under contract at the side for the next two seasons through the end of A-League Men season 2027-28.

"Brisbane Roar are pleased to confirm that local talent Noah Maieroni has committed his future to the football club, with the B Team graduate signing a new three-year extension that keeps Maieroni in orange until 30 June 2030.

The new deal rewards a breakthrough debut campaign for the 20-year-old, who graduated from the Club’s B Team to sign his first professional contract ahead of the 2025/26 season and went on to make his A-League Men’s debut in the opening-round win over Macarthur at Suncorp Stadium.

Maieroni’s journey with the Roar began in his early teenage years as a member of the Club’s youth development system, before a move away to Queensland NPL side Brisbane City FC. Maieroni then returned to the Roar as captain and a prominent figure in the B Team, before a strong A-League men’s pre-season earned Maieroni his maiden professional deal.

A balanced, ball-winning midfielder who is technically comfortable in possession, Maieroni has continued to impress with the passion and grit that has quickly made him a favorite among Roar supporters.

Speaking on his extension, Maieroni said: “Brisbane Roar is the club I grew up supporting, so committing my future here for an additional three years means everything to me and my family.

“I’ve loved every minute of my first season as a professional, and I’m determined to keep working hard, keep developing, and repay the faith the Club has shown in me.”

Sporting Director James Gow said: “Noah is exactly the kind of player we want to build this Club around, a local talent who has come through our pathway and earned his place on merit.

“Securing his long-term future is an important statement about where we’re headed. He has all the attributes to become a mainstay of this team, and we’re excited to support his continued growth over the coming seasons.”
