The Melbourne Victory Thread

Angus Thurgate to Western Sydney Wanderers a done deal for the next three seasons through 2027-28. Should pave the way for Juan Mata to jump ship to Melbourne Victory assuming Thurgate is his replacement there.

Mata didn't fit.
Plus Ben Khalfallah hates Stajcic over the lack of game time.
Mata started against Roar away in the crap Suncorp pitch and got injured.

Thurgate closer to a Priestman replacement.
Midfield now has Brillante, Ugarkovic and Thurgate plus Dylan Scicluna to return from injury.
 
I'd be pretty annoyed if we missed Thurgate but got Mata. Mata is brilliant but just hasn't played enough football.
 
I’m starting to feel a lot happier with our squad after signing Genreau and Grimaldi. We really needed another winger.

I also think we need another CB, but it doesn’t appear to be in the pipeline. It makes me wonder if Brendan Hamil is ahead of schedule in his ACL recovery?

As for Mata, I can’t help but feel there is another reason we are looking at him other than on the pitch. Victory are looking for more investors and there were rumours he was talking to CCM about investing before the Victory rumours started.

As for on the pitch, I’m not expecting the world from Mata if he ends up singing for us, but I’m sure he can teach our kids a thing or 2 when it comes to the standards of being a professional footballer. If the club thinks he’s the right fit, then I’m on board.

Totally agree - Mata will much better singing for us rather than playing

^ Shows a need for a player like Mata by position. Whether he's right for us though is another thing.
 
So its transfer deadline day in the AL. I hope we get a visa signing.
