I dunno, this guy was not the plan. We know there was someone else that pulled out at the last minute. We don't know if this guy was 2nd, 3rd or 10th choice. That being said, I'm happy they got someone relatively quickly. He'll have plenty of time to prepare and sign players. Like any coach, I don't really care what they have done in the past, i'll judge him on how he performs now.

Well I never implied he was the plan, but just the fact someone like him’s gotten the gig is a shock to the system.

Incidentally, do you have any idea who was the candidate that pulled out of the running? Because if it was either Milicic or Rudan, it’s virtually proof that there is a God..

No idea. I doubt either of them would pull out at the last minute though.
I did hear from someone involved with the club that it really was a last minute decision. Apparently they had already informed other candidates that they were unsuccessful. There was the rumour they were talking to Millsy. I could definitely see someone in his position having a change of heart at the very last minute. Preserve his reputation over a slightly higher paycheck.

If that’s the case, his olds def raised him right👍🏼

Besides, it’s for the best that we’re going with a foreigner - it’s been long enough since the last one and we as a club should endeavour to get off the league’s collective merry-go-round. Let them recycle players/coaches as they please while we level up✊🏼

Miranda had a fantastic career with us. I'll miss him but the timing here seems right.
 
While Mata is still weighing up whether he continues to play next season or not, as part of this deal, once he elects to retire on the pitch, Mata will chair a newly established football committee at the Club

I like how Caroline Carnegie described the appointment. We needed a "fresh perspective." Its hard to disagree with that.

I wonder if offered him a 1 year deal and got offered 2 year by someone like CCM? I wanted to retain him as he must he eligible for citizenship by now.

When Mata signed for us almost 12 months ago, I think the goal of the club was to get him to invest… and anything he produced on the pitch was a bonus.

I’m obviously very stoked at this. He now has a vested interest in seeing us do well and he would have contacts all over Europe. Maybe some of his ex teammates will play for us down the line.

The other part is the financial security. We haven’t been able to compete on the pitch with your City’s and Sydney’s for ages. We were 4th in crowds this past season as well. For the sake of the league, we need to get back to where we should be... and financial investment will help with that.

It really highlights just how much of a mess WSW is. Not only did this guy deliver on the pitch he's now invested in the club. Talk about missed opportunity.

I wouldn't really care if Nduka left tbh.

Theres been a lot of turnover in the squad.

We'll need new CBs with Miranda and Jackson gone.

We'll need new CF's with Vergos gone and Nduka likely?

I hope Mata goes around again.

With a new coach I'd expect to start seeing some squad movements soon.
