The Melbourne Victory Thread

I just hope they sign someone soon.
Dumping Diles without someone else ready to go would be strange.
5 months is a long off-season, but it's probably not quite long enough for a new coach.
A lot of players off contract. A lot of players to renegotiate contracts. A lot of players to sign.

Melbourne Victory’s search for a coach continues after the A-League club’s failure to secure its intended replacement for Arthur Diles.
Victory has been without a coach since last month parting ways with Diles, who wasn’t offered a contract extension.

It’s understood that when Victory announced Diles’ exit on May 19, his replacement had been chosen by the club’s director of football, John Didulica.

However, NewsWire has learnt that Victory’s plans came unstuck just a few days later when the coach told the club he was no longer available.

The pressure has since been on Didulica to find another coaching option.

Board members are understood to have expressed their frustration with the situation in a meeting this week.

A Victory spokesman on Thursday told NewsWire that club was likely to announce a new coach in the “next three weeks”.

The Victory squad starts pre-season training next month.

Despite a new coach having yet to be appointed, former Sydney FC star Joe Lolley remains heavily linked with a move to Victory.

The future of Spanish great Juan Mata is still unresolved, with the reigning Johnny Warren medallist and 2010 World Cup yet to inform the club whether he will accept its offer of a new contract.

“It’s nice to keep playing when you are enjoying it and performing, but it’s also maybe a good time to stop when things are going well, so I don’t really know,” Mata said last month.

“The club has been very understanding and they showed their willingness for me to stay, and I really appreciate that.”

On the Doddsy and Rinaldo pod, Dodd is suggesting Victory might be going after Milligan, and there are a lot of departures at Newcastle.
Can confirm Milligan WILL be coaching Newcastle next season and that he isn't on the list of coaches being interviewed for the vacant Victory job at the moment.
