Maclaren is looking to return to Oz. Doubt we're at all interested. While our rivals brought in Stama, D'Agostino, Duke Arzani we got ourselves N'Duka... Same underlying issues forward.

I'm no big fan of JMac, but he'd be an upgrade on what we have.
Mata comfortably leads the stats in both goal assists and in chances created. He's also 4th highest for completed crosses.
Put a competent striker at the receiving end of that and MV becomes a very different team.

Of the guys that returned reckon Stama is a massive missed opportunity.

He's only 32 which surprised me. I thought he was 34/5. Not sure about his form in India.
 
D'Arrigo out for 4-6 weeks with foot ligament strain.

Piscopo strained a hammy, seems lower end.

Lino still a couple of weeks away, needs to "show more" whatever that means. Sounds like he's either not fit yet or been training badly.

Hamill still working back up to fitness.

Victory ready to keep grinding against Roar

After doing what they needed to do to grab three points against Wellington, Arthur Diles says the ability to grind out results will be an important one for his side as the season winds down.

Brisbane have lost 6 of their past 7. We really should be beating them at home. But we have only won 1 of our past 10 games against them (and 2 of our past 14 games). They really are a bogey team for us and I will be going in with no expectations.

I saw we are 5th.

Feels like we have won only a couple from our last 5 and we were outside the finals places at the start of that . Weird.
 
What a ball from Mata to send Nduka away for the opener. Nduke good run, terrible but lucky first touch and quality finish.
 
There were some good signs from Nduka. Has a fuck you attitude good strikers need. We'll see if his skill can keep up with it.
 
Who at Victory thought it was a good idea to have 3 or 4 years old kids walk out with the players.
That is far too young; half of them freaked out and ran back down the tunnel, probably traumatized for life.
 
I didn't get to watch the game live this week. Was looking forward to the replay only for it to be so pixelated on Paramount I couldn't watch it. I did get the mini-highlights though.

I will say, we are so lucky to be watching a player with Mata's quality. What a player. What a mentality. I'm just frustrated we aren't supporting him with a better team, and I'll say manager too. It feels a waste and I'm not sure we'll get the time to build with him. I'm just going to enjoy what we get because he's phenomenal.

Although Diles is probably lacking in a few areas, one thing he has done very well is handle the pressure. The pressure at a club like MV is significant, and many coaches would buckle and lose the group and ultimately their job. We see it regularly where team isn't doing well, coach starts lashing out and making excuses, players moral plummets and the performances and points dry up. That doesn't seem to be the case at all at MV. Consistency is still a bit of an issue, but every club (except Jets) is in that boat this season.
Also makes you wonder why Diles has been able to get so much out of Mata, when WSW/Staj couldn't.
