In saying all that im an exception to that rule, whilst he wants/always wanted Marconi to do well my dad would actually probably consider himself more of an APIA supporter. Probably a lot to do with the fact APIA were stronger when he first came to Australia, and then Marconi became the more successful later. Because of that I think APIA probably also have a maybe a higher average age of support, but theyāve done well to get a lot of young locals in lately⦠Also re dad, heās from Rome and supports Roma, so he canāt get past the mental association of the Maroon of APIA being similar to Roma and the blue of Marconi being similar to Lazio even though as Iāve told him many times thatās completely coincidental and they have nothing to do with each otherYea itās a factor, potentially in the foundational years even more so. also family connection would play a big part, who your grandfather, father supported etc. Marconi has been more successful and played in the national level for much longer so that probably accounts for the larger support base. As Iāve said before there was a long time when it was one of the premier soccer clubs in this country More people probably have a personal/familial connection to Marconi. Itās a pretty friendly rivalry Ala Sydney united v Melbourne knights, rather than a deep seeded hatred.
