This has been a very rare occurance of a core bowling group quartet playing so many tests over many years. The transition period will be huge over the next 12-24 months. Likely Starc, Lyon and Hazlewood will be gone and some young kids like Craig will get their opportunity if they're good enough to take the spot.
 
SA v Tas was a terrific game of cricket on a sporting pitch.

My only issue is the pitch precluded a quality spinner like Kuhnemann getting sufficient overs. The Tassie left arm finger spinner, righty or wrongly, seems to be ahead of Harry Potter, Rocky and Swepson after Lyon, in the pecking order by the Aussie selectors. I think they orchestrated his move to the Tigers from Queensland.

For South A, Doggett and Liam Scott bowled well. Carey was very good with the bat, and kept superbly. Silk scored a well compiled 64 in the first dig - under pressure.

Head looked dangerous with the bat, but might have fallen to his Aus team-mate Webster's mind games.

For Tas, Webster took 8 and Bell 5 poles.

Doggett took plenty and Scott took at least 5 for SA

For mine I would select Head or Carey as Aus captain immediately. New era needed.

Baggers, if you watched the other 2 Shield games a bit, any more detailed reports/insights on them?

In Tas Crick members, everyone thinks Usman should have already been tapped on the shoulder - because of his age and his fielding. Plus his recent mediocre batting performances.

Lyon - only his age precludes his selection. Still an excellent fielder and a very good bowler.

Whether it is Kuhnemann, Murphy, Rocciocioli, or even Swepson, it is the memory of Chappell, Marsh, Lillee retiring in one season in the mid 80s, that decimated Aus. People remember. Matt K, Harry Potter and Rocky are aged 27, 25, 25, respectively. All are bowling well.

Most in Tas members think there should have been more renewal in Sri Lanka. At least they tried Inglis, but Cooper Connelly was a disaster.

One of the Tas Shield bowlers told us the Aus selectors like Xavier Bartlett. Needs to play more red ball cricket.

Vic paceman, Fergus O'Neill, is slow through the air, but has taken plenty of Shield wickets.

Hopefully, the younger openers Konstas, Victorian Kellaway, and South Aussie, Henry Hunt, make plenty of red ball runs.

Yep a pair of 50s DC. In last innings Konstas was second top scorer, which is encouraging. Some former players are calling for Kontas to bat down the order indefinitely. I am with them as when your struggling with your game opening adds extra pressure.

Jhye Richardson (CAX1) is poised to be given an Ashes audition next week against the England Lions, as he holds out hope of playing his first Test in four years. The match is over four days and will be played at the Lilac Hill ground in Perth. His coach Adam Voges says he is fit and raring to give it to the second string Poms.

Yes. He is another teachers pet, but this pet I agree with. If fit he is a top shelf fast swing bowler and we dont have too many of them. I was shocked to find he is now 29. I recall Ashes '21 where he took his maiden Test five-wicket haul in Adelaide against England. Had the Poms in disarray. Seems like yesterday..

Tuff going against the sec new ball on the WACA pitch for Green 84* and Hardie 20*, nevertheless they are weathering the storm.

Was it 21 when he played a Test or two?

I’m astonished he is now 29?
 
Cameron Green falls only 6 short of his century. An exceptional dig by the big fellar on a track that offered the bowler plenty of assistance. He was ably supported by Aaron Hardie with 55 not out.

Sam Whiteman has declared behind, a brave tactic.

Yep I see this too. But I think there is a move happening to have more indigenous players in international cricket. Reason they picked Boland over Neser three yrs ago and Doggett over Bartlett this time. I hope this policy is not being bias towards players that may have earned the baggy green cap more than them.

Has paid off for Sam a WA have Qld 8- 187 at stumps, a lead of 255 when 400 + was on the cards. The visitors tho are probably still favorites.
