Gee, it is good having the Test players playing Shield!

One can see the close bond between Head, Carey and Webster, who have played some key partnerships under pressure in Tests.

I’m hoping Doggett is next cab off rank if Starc, Hazlewood or Boland break down. Lovely action!

Conversely, Abbott is a big grunter.

Bell is very smooth too.

Doggett 100% has to be the next in line on current form.

Abbott is well past his prime and should be moved on from test squads. Turns 34 in Feb and if he was good enough he would have made his debut by now.

Weatherald made scores of 67, 57 and 94
Yep he did. You are responding to an older post DC. I am referring to later games once he had been picked and if he is struggling with his mind over whether he has the ability to succeed in Test cricket. A lot of sport is played between the ears. Young Sam Konstas is discovering this at the moment.

Gannon bowling a brilliant spell for WA right now!!
Another from my neck of the woods. Born in the Harbor City like me. I note Gannon often bowls his best spells with the older ball.

Green with the meanest economy, 13 runs taken from his 8 overs. That is good pressure building bowling.

The diaspora of NSW cricketers is incredible! As a visiting bowler, Gannon has bowled some fiery spells at Bellerive. If he wasn't 35, these spells have been good enough to warrant higher honours.

What has happened to Chris Tremayne another quality NSW fast bowler - another who needed to go interstate?

Met Jackson Bird's wife yesterday in members. Apparently, his older brother was a decent batter who never got any interest from Blues selectors .

Word in is within the loop is NSW selectors /coaches idiotically tell many cricketers they aren't good enough and won't ever make the Bluebaggers. They frequently move interstate and prove them wrong! As a teacher/soccer coach myself, this is the most stupid thing to ever tell a student/player!

JB feels like he may never have got a chance if the Tassie scouts hadn't looked at him bowl 3 balls in Sydney grade cricket and signed him!

Tas has had so many cricketers from NSW who've been terrific recruits. They often marry locals who keep them here!

My bad!

Hazlewood wants both Green and Webster in the team to support the 3 designated quicks. It works to support the 3 older bowlers' loads.

Webster can bowl plenty of pace overs, and a few spin overs, to keep their workloads down, despite being out of form with the bat. Slug is in good form with the ball. He can also keep Green's workload down. His pace action doesn't take much out of him.

The weather is shocking here today.

Cold, windy and showery.

After last night's collapse by Tas, South are in a good position to win the game over the next 2 days of awful weather, with the juicy pitch still doing a bit - despite Jewell and Weatherald flaying the SA attack in their opening stand.

Sam Konstas is hopefully one for the future, but Matt Renshaw has never kicked on as expected.

Who is the genius that moved Jason Sangha to #3. With one of the SA openers usually going cheaply Sangha is virtually opening and having to face the hard new cherry. Pretty sure he batted lower in the order last season, definitely his most successful in his first class career. So much so that Ricky Ponting wanted him picked for the Ashes.

We have our lines crossed. I am referring to Jake Weatherald, werent you also. But come to think of it this does also apply to Matt Renshaw as he battled the black dog for several yrs after being dropped from Tests.

3-52 at drinks.

Webster gets his Aus teammate Head out - again. Head looked like he could destroy Tas.

Bell got 2 early LBWs.

Carey batting well. McS circumspect. Webster bowling well.

I'm not. Not becuse I have anything against Doggett , is a good bowler, but due to his age. Policy last five yrs has been to have 30 somethings as reserve bowlers, rather than introducing emerging pacemen to that role, providing they have proven their fitness with no sign of back trouble. You guys know the name Craig McDermott, ' Billy the kid' was his nickname because he was picked to make his Test debut at 19. This is what needs to be happening again as these kids will be lost in the future rush if they arent exposed now.

Both early Test careers - Konstas and Renshaw.

He is still younger.

Makes sense and I'd agree if we werent playing England. Fact is we need the extra specialist bat against them with what they are mooting, to field a full pace attack.

Just got a shock with the much maligned Abbott running thru the Vics this morning. Doubt it will make much difference to the result tho and they are well ahead in the game.
