Weatherald in Test contention.

Labu has scored heaps too.
Both are. Bailey says either is a good chance to open, only a matter of what type they prefer , the aggressive Weatherald or the more patient Labuchagne. I'd love to see the Tassie slugger show the Pommies we Aussies can also use bazball.

I have seen hundreds of cricketers in my time, very few go on to play state then Test cricket. These guys excite me , just like Patrick Zie (pronounced Shee) who I first saw bat this week scoring an undefeated 160 in a nsw Premier red ball game from last season. In a word stylish. To give you an idea of Zie's dominance he hit 20 impeccable boundaries to reach his century. That equates to 80 runs out of his 100. And he did it at a run a ball on a first day green pitch with not one risky shot, only superb timing and placement and at no time did he look uncomfortable. Talk about being impressed, he was a joy to watch. Even more so once he passed the milestone as he really imposed himself on the bowling with even more incredible shot making. He is only 21 and plays for the Parramatta Cricket Club in Sydney. Zie is also ambitious having traveled in the off season all the way to Ireland to hone his skills in unfamiliar conditions in Irish League Cricket. I am backing Zie to make the Blues 2nd X1 this season.

Love that story Rich!

There is some real young talent out there no doubt and my hope is that more and more of them bat in a way free from the shackles of orthodoxy and tradition. Batting is about scoring runs and swinging the bat to do it makes the most sense.

DC Tassie has promising all rounders Aidan O'Connor and Louis Smith, my state has Addison Sherriff (below), who at a juvenile 17 years scored a First Grade century (115) for his club UTS North Sydney. Also at 17 he took 7/37, joining only two cricketers Sam Robson and Bob Simpson as the only players to have both a first-grade century and a five wicket haul before the age of 18! Last yr Sherriff scored his second club ton at 18, in fact it was in the same match as that of Patrick Zie.

Many thanks odw. Seems the younger generation, like Patrick Zie are adopting the policy of what you say, breaking free from the shackles. In the same game his partner also scored a ton but off 250 or so balls. So I do believe there is still that need for the traditional patient approach, specially at Test level as the match runs for five days and that is a lot of time to fill with only two innings per side..

Absolutely! As they say you can't score from the pavilion, so knowing when to preserve your wicket and when to attack is one of the great arts of batting.

One Day on tomorrow at Bellerive - Tas v WA.

We have had the windiest weather ever. Not sure if the stands will protect the players to some extent? The wind is forecast to continue. Thankfully, the balcony in the Tas Crick members is protected from these strong West to North West winds.

Thanks.

None of us in Tas Crick members had heard of Louis Smith, apart from me hearing about him from you a while ago, and not being able to remember his name?

I wonder if Labu being a right handed bat as opposed to Weatherald being a lefty will come into calculations?

Thanks.

Probably because he has not figured in any underage national sides DC, only due to injury am betting. Shame on you TC members for not following your own Pathways kids, given Louis is an Emerging Tiger. Surprised he did not join Aidan O'Connor on the 25/26 rookie list to be honest. Only reason I can think of is selectors prob figured one all rounder was sufficient. Some states have as many as five rookies this season, Tassie only chose three.

Stop/start contest DC. One good thing is it reduces the overs, making for a better game.

Frustrating at ground with big winds.

As usual, Jewell was dominating the attack, then lost concentration and got himself out. Made 48 off 37 balls.

At last have had a look at Beardman.
