Summer of Cricket thread

Our Shield season in Tas starts on October 15th.

We've had awful windy, showery weather in the last few weeks, after a warmer, milder, sunny start of spring. The current weather is awful for cricket!

Welcome back for another season Jon. Yeh you want the warmer mild days back for the start of your shield season. In case you are yet to see your squad, here it is.
Marcus Bean, Gabe Bell, Jackson Bird, Iain Carlisle, Jake Doran, Kieran Elliott, Nathan Ellis*, Brad Hope, Matt Kuhnemann*, Caleb Jewell, Riley Meredith, Lawrence Neil-Smith, Mitch Owen, Will Prestwidge, Nivethan Radhakrishnan, Jordan Silk, Billy Stanlake, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward, Jake Weatherald, and Beau Webster.

Rookie Contract: Nick Davis, Raf MacMillan, Aidan O’Connor.
No Louis Smith as yet. Been watching him play in Darwin in the off season. His team won the comp with a good deal of help from him with ball and bat.

Attended Tas Cricket AGM last night.

Very interesting convos after the formal event with CEO and Sec.

Free booze and nibbles for members. Met up prior with other drinkers and loaded up with quality craft beer, then drank quality Tas Pinot Noir for free at the event.
What were some of the interesting covos mate.

Thanks, Richie!

Expected Louis Smith in there somewhere! We seem to be producing a lot of pace bowling all rounders ATM.

Aidan O’Connor impressed late in last year’s Shield season, Baggers.

Lot of effort to use white ball money to prop up red ball cricket!

Tas officials have gone to Guyana to peruse for Hobart Hurricanes to rep Aus as BBL winners in some big T20 comp.

Guyana undergoing fast economic growth ATM.

Followed by visits to US cricket. Subcontinental expats boosting T 20 cricket in USA ATM.

Successful visit by Cricket Tas officials meeting English counties- very well hosted to foster links between Tas and English county cricket.

Is this link fostering to do with securing Tassie cricketers to play in ECC in our off season.

He cant be long away from a Tigers contract given he has already played for Aussie A.
You mean producing all rounders in Tassie or Australia DC.

In Tassie we seem to have a lot of all rounders ATM.

If we count the Indian origin opener, who bowls both left arm and right arm finger spin, there are 5 pace bowling all rounders- Hope, Webster, O’Connor, Smith and the new Aus national team T20 player.

Probably.

And to entice English county players to play grade cricket in Tas too.
Good point. Perhaps even one or two to put on the Tigers kit. Overseas cricketers used to play in Australian shield sides, many years ago, tho mostly elites like Garfield Sobers .

Was unable to quote you for some reason. You mean Mitchell Owen. Yes Tassie producing a lot of pace all rounders, all r/armers too. A lefty would also be useful.

Have doubts about batting first as the green strips of grass running down the pitch on stump line and just outside look a touch dangerous.

Got that spot on as a length ball has hit one of those green areas and jumped like a cobra to dismiss opener Alex Turner. Definitely a poor call to bat first as now the second opener Alex Lee-Young has fallen to a similar lifting ball. He looked impressive before that. Aussies is early trouble.

You guys watching the coverage.

Aussies will need to bounce back today as that pitch will be easier to bat on and we did not even reach 300 runs.
