The youth look a bit thin @Richie @Decentric . We have quite a few aobut to retire. Is the rebuild going to be brutal?

Sign Up Now!No. It had patches of green grass which helped their seamers. Since then the sun has baked the surface making it a batting paradise. Tassie will bat next but all too late as only one day left for them to win it. I expect tho that they can bat out a draw but the openers have to lay a platform first. What a shocker from Tas!
Do you think the pitch was as flat for the Tas first dig, Baggers?
As a cricket tragic myself Graz who always tries to keep my finger on the pulse, I'd say undoutedly when the now 36 year old Steve Smith alone retires the gap may never be refilled. He's probably the best since Bradman so we can't expect to.The youth look a bit thin @Richie @Decentric . We have quite a few aobut to retire. Is the rebuild going to be brutal?

I was gonna answer Grazors post, but you son did it for me, word for word. There's also without a doubt one of the best four man bowling attacks to ever play test cricket. The stats easily prove that fact. Because the core of this team have been so good for so long it has meant they have all had long careers, so yes there will be quite a lot of change very quickly but the Australian domestic cricket competition is still the best in the world and we have a number of very promising young cricketers. They will have opportunities at the highest level that the players of the last 10-15 years didn't have due to these legends of the game. That is incredibly exciting and I believe it will connect to the younger fans making new heroes for todays budding stars.
Cricket Aus have been doing a pretty good job at integrating some highly regarded young players around various squads and selecting them in Aus A teams and the like.
There will be bumps for sure but I think Australian cricket is in a pretty good place and whether we maintain success will be dependant on if the young brigade can take the next step up and how long that takes.
Oh yes. Our one genuine legend, second only to THE DON. Other than sheer natural talent Smith has enormous perseverance and determination as he was dropped from our Test side when playing as a leg spinning all rounder and had to reinvent his game.I'd say undoutedly when the now 36 year old Steve Smith alone retires the gap may never be refilled. It wont happen overnite, so we will have to be patient. Can put much of the blame for this on our current selectors. The good thing is the raw material is there it just needs refining then polishing so expect a couple of lean years while these kids mature .Is the rebuild going to be brutal?

hey we all thought nothing would compare to when the Lillee/Thommo's/Marshy's departed its over then they come again, AB's Warne's/Waughs/Gillys etc then another lot, Thankfully we keep reproducing though it amaze's me compared to the days when Shield was far more in the press in the past compared to modern times you hardly hear of the State levels games. It wont happen overnite, so we will have to be patient. Spot on mate. Good to see you on cricket thread. Main reason was the introduction of BBL T20 during school hols meant the shield comp was split into two 5 round sections, thus reducing its importance. All for $$$ to fill CA coffers.hey we all thought nothing would compare to when the Lillee/Thommo's/Marshy's departed its over then they come again, AB's Warne's/Waughs/Gillys etc then another lot, Thankfully we keep reproducing though it amaze's me compared to the days when Shield was far more in the press in the past compared to modern times you hardly hear of the State levels games.
Alex Lee-Young leading the comeback but he needed the tail to stay with him. Well done on a battling 66 top score young fellar. This new look attack has sent six Indian bats back to the sheds for under 90. The Aussie boys are now in this match up to their necks.A Second Youth Test v India started today and the Aussie kids are making a better fist of this than Test #1. Selectors tell me why Steven Hogan has been left out when he was clearly our best bat in the first match . Ditto Ayran Sharma. Dumb call. To make matters worse our skipper made the wrong call to bat as the Aussies are in deep crap on what looks like a grassy seamers track.
Yep, Jewell and Ward chewed up a lot of time which I said they had to do to save it and now looks like they have. Draw now confirmed DC. A gritty effort Tigers.Reports from Tas Crick mates - Chowdury quick fire 50.
Jewell 67. He can slay attacks.
Probably saved game for Tas.

Definitely devastating to lose one of the best fast bowlers in the world and our skipper on the eve of the Ashes. I know Root and co will sleep a little easier that's for sure.New captain for The Ashes?

Poms went after Boland in Ashes in England.Definitely devastating to lose one of the best fast bowlers in the world and our skipper on the eve of the Ashes. I know Root and co will sleep a little easier that's for sure.
Helps that we another world class bowler waiting in the wings in Boland, and Smith will ensure that we don't lose too much in the captaincy department.
If Cummins doesn't play at all and Smith can lead the team to the urn, the Sydney test may see a few retirements eg Khawaja, Smith, maybe even Hazlewood and Starc
Great post mate. AB faced them and conquered, about our only bat who did. The little blokes motto was fight fire with fire. Never took a backward step. If not mistaken he is the only Aussie to score consecutive 100s against the Holding, Roberts, Garner, Marshall attack on their soil.Sorry to get off course - I marvelled what ol KP did, I used to get to the SCG watch Lloyd's unbeatable/amazing Windies smash us.
Richards, what a athelete ! the confident arrogance you could only admire in awe what he did with the willow and his fielding.
The weight of Lloyd's willow.
Kanhai, Greenidge, Holding,Roberts,Garner Marshall - poor AB and the fellas facing those thunderbolts.
Talking shield in the heydays, I used to wag school a couple of times only haha get to watch Dougie march out with his fag - stub it out as he got to the gate to then set up at the crease, look around as if easy as, read the ball like a book and smash bowlers all over the park.
You know Skull right ? my Uncle knew him way back then for the Uncle had a business at Kogarah Skull frequented.
I was not surprised he became a funny brilliant commentator.
I once went to the local oval during a free period in Year 12 back in 2002 to watch New South Wales play New Zealand in a one day tour match.sports all about the broadcast $ and overall quick revenue......
Not a fan of the BBL etc - smash and grab game for $ - sure skill is for all to see as we called it long ago the original WSC/ODI's 50 over pyjama cricket now its like a american style presentation.
Spouse it had to happen.

If Khawaja and Starc have a poor Ashes they should be tapped. Lyon should call it quits, has had a good run. Australias luckiest cricketer.Definitely devastating to lose one of the best fast bowlers in the world and our skipper on the eve of the Ashes.
