With GOAT injured most Crick Tas Members think Rocciocioli should be selected.

Current Shield spin wickets for this season are:
Swepson 21
Corey R 20
Murphy 10
Matt Kuhn 4.

Swepson has had quite a few ops, and looks to be just short of Test standard as a wristy.

The other finger spinners, Matt K and Murphy look better at Test level and are younger.

The selectors don't seem to like Rocky, but at Bellerive, has looked most effective visiting spinner in Shield. Gives the ball more loop than Murph. He gets good bounce off the pitch.

At the Presentation Ceremony Ben Stokes told Isa Guha that Australia ''executed things more consistently than us''. That is a massive understatement Stokes. Australia were more clinical, smarter, ruthless and better tactically in all the important moments of each Test. Just when your guys sensed the ascendancy our guys came back with a killer blow such as a vital partnership or a swag of wickets or your guys threw away that ascendancy with a brain dead shot from a form of aggressive batting instigated by your coach because that is the way he played his Test cricket. England will now have to live with the fact that they have not beaten us on Aussie soil since 1990/91. That is 10 consecutive series over more than a generation.
Good post.

So with Cummins probably out and Lyons definitely out what is the team for Melbourne.

For me

Head, Weatherald, Labuschagne, Smith, Khawaja, Carey, Webster, Neser, Starc, Boland, Murphy.
I'd go for this, but because of his young age, swap Green for Usman.

From what I'm reading, Webster will be overlooked again.

Inside info is current Aus Test selection panel is not turning up to Shield matches like previous panel, when Greg Chappell, Merv Hughes and Mark Waugh were always at Shield games.

Corey Rocchiccioli has a better economy in the Shield compared to Swepson but I'd say the selectors will likely go for Murphy or Kuhnemann, given that they already have international experience in Test cricket, as well as the fact that Swepson may have already committed to playing Big Bash League for the summer.

IMO Green is more of a batting all rounder. His batting in the series so far is a bit disappointing.

Bowling wise if he can just bowl at bit tighter i will be happy.

My recollection is Webster doesn't leak a lot of runs. Is is ideal if the allrounder can bowl long spells of tight bowling and chip in with the occasional wicket.

I would still like to aee Webster in the side for the last 2 tests.
Webster bowls 120-130 kph.

Green is 10 kph quicker and more of a strike bowler, but can only bowl a few overs.

Webster can bowl long spells with an economical action and also bowls finger spin.

DC you keep saying this, Kuhnemann is 29 the oldest of all the contenders. They may look better at Test level as Rocky is yet to play Tests. He is in the best shield form, has been for two seasons before this and usually CA reward this.

Even though Matty Kuhn plays for Tas, he hasn't done the workload in the Shield this season to hone his red ball skills.

Matt K has had a few birthdays since I last looked, Rich.

Rocky, to the best of my knowledge, has been overlooked by selectors so far. Most off forum, including me, think he deserves the cap.

Surely Swepson can uncommit to Big Bash franchise cricket compared to The Ashes?

Do you honestly think Websters best is better than Greens. Admittedly slug has had a good start to Tests but understandable as he has played over a decade of first class cricket.
I think Green has a far higher ceiling, but Slug plays closer to his top in Tests. Webster's Test stats are better than Green batting and bowling. Webster is a better fielder too.

I think we play both and have Green at 4 instead of Khawaja.

Playing Webster could have reduced Cummins' workload in Adelaide.

Probably not. But we will be without hazelwood still plus Cummins and Lyons. How will a spinner other than Lyons go? Webster can bowl long spells economicly so that the remaining strike bowlers aren't worked into the ground. More a question of balance.

We have 4 decent Shield spinners.

Both Kuhn and Murphy have looked good in Tests too - but with Lyon bowling as well.

Yes odd that given his returns past two seasons of 46 & 38w a piece. Was ranked third top wicket taker in both seasons, while Murphy was 26th in 23/4, 27th 24/5. K did not play in 23/4, 24/5 was 14th. Either the national selectors were blind or they were playing favorites.

I go along with that then hand Ussie a Sydney swan song given the series has now been decided.

I'd debate that. I rate Green one of the games best gully fielders. Slugs best work has been in the slips in shield, yet to see him slipping in Tests. Correct on their respective ceilings and Green has yet to reach his top. I'd like for Green to play a year in county cricket instead of chasing IPL millions.
